Movie Scene Analysis: The end fight Between Jacky Chan and Wallace
In the movies filmed in Hong Kong, the opening scene tends to introduce the viewer to the fight and actually highlights some of the reasons for the fight (Kuhn & Westwell, 2012). One of the reasons is that Chan is obliged to fight Mr. Harko’s Bodyguard to prove a point and also save his friends, as opposed to the movie version released in America, directed by Glickenhaus (Glickenhaus, 1985). The version in the US had no clear introductory statement to the scene, but it just started into a fight; it would be relatively challenging to connect the theme of the movie if the viewer had not begun the film from the very beginning. Throughout the film, this seemed to set up the entire conflict since Mr. Harko believed that he had the fiercest protector and would do any and never afraid of anyone. Additionally, the scene shot in Hong Kong shows some of Chan’s friend held hostage and this really makes the movie to connect with the viewer who would empathize with him to fight harder and with determination to save lives.
When it comes to the choreography, Chan’s producer in Hong Kong realized that work to be famous, it had to employ its gritty realism. As the fighting begins, thDirector’s’s direction offers a pathway to the choreographer’s contribution, as it becomes clear that a distinct world fighting reality event is happening since it involves even using some “lethal” weapons to engage in the fight showing that it is a serious film making. The iconic fight itself could be plain, as was earlier directed by Glickenhaus without involving any more use of weapons; it would be easier to film. However, what is fascinating is how thDirectoror and choreographer play with and actively engage the dynamic of the fight scenes (Patwardhan, 2013). Finally, as the film ends, the tough guy (Wallace) postures in agony and pain and feeling weak, we tend to comprehend the gang’s view of the world as one that can be conquered and the focus in Chan’s determination shows more morality.
