Multidisciplinary Team

A fitting definition of a multidisciplinary team in “Precious” would be a collaboration of different agencies brought together by the need to investigate a case of child abuse and molestation (Roncaglia, 2016). A multidisciplinary case involves social workers, teachers, police, and even the psychiatrist who come together to help Precious Jones. The police play the role of rescuing Precious Jones and investigating whether the allegations are true and arrest them if need be.

From the movie, “Precious,” Precious Jones shows signs of being abused in her family. The fear of her parents could have forced her to remain silent. The role of the police is to save Precious from her abusive parents and protect her from harm. The protection might involve arresting her parents, who might interfere with investigations. The difference in times would benefit Precious in that the police would respond quickly, and Precious would not continue suffering in the hands of her parents. The main reason that Precious suffered in silence is that the police did not respond in time, or the reporting was not substantiated to make the police aware of the incident. Besides, people have a right to privacy and breaching that might have other consequences if the evidence is not found for the allegations made.

In sum, the role of the police in the multidisciplinary team would be to save Precious and protect her from continued abuse by her parents. The difference in times would mean that Precious’ case will receive a quick response since the systems have changed, and police do not take long to respond. Generally, the collaboration of people from different disciplines makes investigations easier and successful.
