My CSP: Nurse Practitioner-Led Management of Type 2 Diabetes
In most healthcare settings, nurses are the primary caregivers, and this has positively impacted the quality of care that patients with type 2 diabetes receive. According to Klisiewicz & Huddle (2011), there were approximately 30 million people with diabetes worldwide, a figure which has risen to 285 million by 2010 and is projected to grow to almost 500 million by 2030. Diabetes is a disease that requires continuing care: consisting of professional nurse-led care and patient self-management. Nurse practitioners have reached a tipping point, and now more than ever, nurses provide solutions to a majority of the health issues affecting many countries today.
Essential I: Scientific underpinnings for practice essentials
Through this essential, I have been able to base all my patients’ care activities on scientific evidence. According to Sahin & Naylor (2017), evidence-based practice (EBP0 entails the application of scientific care basing on scientific evidence to ensure delivery of quality patient care. To employ scientific underpinnings, I will use research-based knowledge, and clinical evidence to inform the decisions on quality delivery care of all my patients. Instead of looking at tradition or authority as a source of credibility in my nursing work, I will instead focus on set policies and procedures based on credible sources of evidence.
Essential II: Organizational and Systems Leadership for Quality Improvement and Systems Thinking.
Basing on this essential, I have been able to use organizational theories to understand and develop the best ways of attaining the best quality care for my patients. I have been able to understand and incorporate systems analysis and leadership to evaluate the existing quality care of patients, healthcare practices, and organizations. Because of this, I have been able to utilize organizational management skills; I can provide quality and timely healthcare for all my patients. Concerning regulatory issues, serving as a secretary at a local council has enabled me to take part and exercise my management skills for the benefit of all
Essential III: Clinical Scholarship and Analytical Methods for Evidence-Based Practice.
In my nursing course and the DNP program, I have been able to improve my analysis of evidence-based practice and used this to perfect my work as a nurse. In this process, I have been able to develop and complete the generation of new information, which has helped me in my nursing projects and improvement of my practice. I believe that in using this skill, the evidence-based practice can be used, which can improve clinical interventions and improve patient outcomes. Understanding this essential will also enable me to work and serve as a ‘consultant’ and help those aspiring to work in my field of expertise.
Essential IV: Information Systems Technology and Patient Care Technology for the Improvement and Transformation of Health Care
This essential has been important to me as I have been able to understand, assess, and evaluate the extent of accuracy from a wider variety of informational resources. Learning and applying these skills has been essential for me, too, because they have enabled me to assist customers in obtaining and utilizing the best health information. I have also been able to learn the various technologies which use informatics to improve health and safety outcomes and using data to contribute to clinical decision-making. In the next few months, I also hope to improve my knowledge and skills to analyze patient education and consumer outcomes.
