Nature and Nurture Debate
Nature versus Nurture has become an issue of degree whereby environment and heredity determine an individual’s behavior and development. According to modern psychology, nature can be defined as behaviors of individual houses caused by heredity factors such as genes (Hambrick & Bugoyne, 2019). A person’s actions are based on the genetic makeup of an individual hence influencing their growth and development. Contrary, Nurture refers to environmental factors that affect an individual’s behavior. Therefore, in this case, the influence comes from the parents and other family members, including encounters with friends and all different experiences exposed to an individual (Ebenstein et al., 2018).
Nature has become a factor that defines certain physical characteristics, including something that creates an outline for innate abilities and potentials housed by individuals. Therefore, genetic makeup determines our behaviors, along with certain underlying traits that become heritable. Certain behavior traits may be partially heritable such as genetically inherited disorders like aggressiveness. On the other hand, nurture factors such as social surroundings, life experiences, and the environment influence of individual’s behavior at a large tented (Hambrick & Bugoyne, 2019).
Mainly, Nurture or the environment manifests the behaviors and thoughts because it becomes responsible for cultivating the characters. For example, a person growing up in an aggressive family environment and have friends who house feisty styles will make the individual develop to become very aggressive. Therefore, even though specific behaviors are heritable, they must get manifested by being natured by the environment around them (Ebensteinhttps://essaygroom.com/developmental-psychology/ et al., 2018).
The study of the human behavior of an individual reveals the close connection between the body and the mind. Mental functions and physical conditions coordinate with each other hence influencing their activities. The nerves and glands seem mainly responsible for mental functions such as thinking, perceptions, and emotions. Similarly, mental functions such as strong feelings, emotions, attitudes, motives, and thoughts influence bodily activities and processes. Motivation is an action from the mind which cultivates many physical activities. On the other hand, physical fatigue of the body affects mental activities by reducing motivation, interest, and concentration (Hambrick & Bugoyne, 2019).
