Negotiation in counseling
The counseling approach is used to resolve disputes and also to explore a solution to the parties who have an issue. This approach utilizes either integrative or distributive bargaining in finding a mutual ground of understanding. Counseling, when it is employed in conflict neutralization, it relies upon the mediation and exploration that helps the negotiator to find a vantage point to tackle the issue at hand (Jäger et al. 2017). Counseling sessions of the disputing parties require one to use integrative negotiation that makes all the parties benefit and feels that their need has been heard and taken care of. The integrative approach aims at bringing all the parties together and then exploring the dispute through turn-taking. The parties are given time to express their grievances and then trying to use the best tactic to make them achieve a common ground of understanding.
In integrative counseling is the most used approach since it focuses on the mutual benefit of both parties. In contrast, for the distributive approach, it is focused on personal benefit rather than collective gain. The distributive approach in negotiation in counseling sessions can result in misunderstanding hence compounding the dispute. Integrative negotiation is the ultimate dispute resolution during counseling and mediation (Wilmot & Hocker, 2010). Mediation is used to help in bargaining for dispute resolution and making each party compromise in some elements to achieve neutrality in the issue. Collaboration in both parties who had issues makes it easy for a negotiated to employ the best tactics to reach mutual agreement and understanding that must be established before the parties can opt to let go of the misunderstanding.
Advantages and disadvantage of negotiation
The merit of using counseling in negotiation is to enhance communication between the conflicting parties. Once the parties learn how to control their emotions, respect the other party, and also to be conscious of what they say makes the atmosphere less tensed. Communication is the first approach that is used to achieve a mutual agreement with an issue. Moreover, interpersonal skill is another advantage that is employed in the mediation of a conflict (Jäger et al. 2017). In this approach, the parties who have disputes are made to understand that everyone can make an error, and having a mutual ground is the best basis to achieve the resolution. High self- esteems and acceptance is another merit that helps to promote and improve the emotional accommodation of all parties. This makes the disputing parties be alert and conscious to assist in reaching a consensus.
In conflicting issues that need a solution, the counselor may serve as a collateral ground. The counselor, in the case of a dispute, should manage and tame the parties to be calm since most of the time, the parties become emotional and personal, which is a demerit in a counseling session. The parties in the session react to each other when it comes to the turn of each person to express their own feeling and grievances (Wilmot & Hocker, 2010). Furthermore, counseling tends to be distributive to seek a solution in a conflict. The counselors, in this case, are the point of reference for solace. This makes the parties think that it is a one-sided approach. Insufficient ability to deal with conflict is another demerit that makes the session not to reach a mutual agreement since it brings confounded misunderstanding to the disputing parties. The language barrier can also be another aspect that can prevent conflict from being resolved.
Negotiation services in local areas
In the local area, the issues that need mediation ranges from simple to complex personal problems. This issue includes all sorts of abuses, drug addiction, and gambling. Counseling sessions are done to victims who have experienced abuse so that it would make them return to a typical pattern of thinking. Suicidal thoughts could be done away through counseling sessions of the victims. The victims, in this case, they are counseled on the best approaches to come to terms with oneself. Drug addiction is another issue that requires a counselor to make arrangements on counseling the person who is addicted to substance abuse or a habit. In this case, the counselor tries to advise the person who is at denial and bargaining to accept the situation, then start the transformation phase. Gambling is another issue that needs counseling since it leads to devastating outcomes.
Job hiring process
The hiring process begins by identifying the need in the organization, and then professional who is required to breach the gap in the work environment. What follows is a plan of recruitment based on qualification that is needed to fill the demand that has been identified. The job description enumerates the skills and requirements that the applicant should possess before they are considered for the advertised position. The recruitment process is initiated by reviewing the applicants’ documents, and the qualified applicants are invited for an interview (Beheshti et al. 2016). The applicant who demonstrates the highest qualification with certificates and skill in communication is hired for the job so as to fill the gap and address the need. The cost incurred during the hiring process comes from an advertisement that varied depending on which means of advertisement used.
The third parties usually make guarantees and promises. This promise made from the third parties is collaborative and compromising. However, this guarantee cannot be relied upon since promises without tangible evidence and other dependent factors that can lead to failure. The promises are biding when the parties involved have a written agreement to make sure no one who goes against the consensus (Wilmot & Hocker, 2010). In addition, the typical timeline that is required to manage cases like abuse, gambling, and addiction is depended on the willingness of the victim to accept and being the transformation phase. Some of the counseling sessions could take a shorter period, while others are longer. The victim who is affected by the conflict, be it personal or interpersonal they need to transition from denial, bargaining, and acceptance for a resolution to happen.
