Discuss an experience that you had using negotiation tactics.
The experience that made me use the negotiation tactics was when I was purchasing my first laptop. I requested a ten percent discount off the laptop. I had to use negotiation skills in order to ensure that we reached a certain price. One of the negotiation tactics was promising to be a regular client if she accepted the 10 percent discount. In the end, the negotiation tactic worked, and I got a 10 percent discount. If they could not have agreed on the discount, I could have asked them to do free delivery to compensate for the discount.
In your opinion, are the tactics in the video similar to real negotiations, or is it just Hollywood?
They are similar to real negotiation. The only difference is the context. In the video, the negotiation tactic employed is collaboration. This means that one has to agree in order for both parties to have a win-win situation. In the video, they are negotiating for one of their crew who was held hostage. In real life we might want some offers such as a contract, we must be ready to hear both parties.
How does the crew respond to the agreement?
The crew was silent, meaning one must not linger on that agreement after it has been made. The other party might feel humiliated, or the deal was not fair. So the crew accepted and wanted to return back. If the crew were not silent, the other team could have thought that they might have been duped to enter into an agreement since they were celebrating.
