“No More Kings Film”
There are very many channels in which people learn history. Apart from going through the conventional learning system, people can learn history by the narration of stories, listening to radios and watching videos. One of the best alternatives for learning history in class is the use of videos. In this case, the large population especially children, learn history from videos. Some historical aspects are brought to the audience through acted films. However, some of the videos may distort some aspects of history through exaggeration and so forth. In this context, the focus is on Schoolhouse Rock video No More Kings film. “No More Kings” is a short cartoon based series that is meant to teach the young children historical events that saw America becoming a free state from the control of the English anarchy that was led by King George III. Despite this series movie being informative, it had some flaws such us; falsified events, unexplained events and skipped events.
Many people think that the video is flawed and should be removed from the learning curriculum of Children in America. Still, this suggestion is based on whether the video should be taken seriously or note. There are various instances in which the movie reinforces and differs with the class. To begin, one of the areas in which the movie reinforced class learning is the mention of property and tea taxes. The movie and the class reading state that the taxes contributed to the movements into of the England anarchy into the new world.
Additionally, the movie takes a good account of the critical aspects that conspired during in America. For instance, both the film and the class reading identify the England anarchy and their influence on America. Both sources recognize the king, who led England to have the power they dominated in America. Also, the movie reinforces the objective of learning American history by students. This is because the two sources have a goal of enabling the learners and other audience to understand the rise of America to become a free state.
On the contrary, the movie suggested that the pilgrim Plymouth Rock settlement in 1620 was the first one in North America. This conflicted with the class readings which state that Jamestown, VA, was the first settlement. Moreover, the video fails to unveil the reasons as to why the settlers from any of the settlements moved out to the new world. On the other side, the class reading gives explanations as to why the settlers moved. The class reading state that the pilgrims were separatists who were often persecuted by the Church of England because they believed that the church was corrupt. However, the movie only stated that the pilgrims were hoping and skipping the Atlantic Ocean because of their loyalty to the King.
Lastly, “No more Kings movie” fails to explain important aspects of American history. One of the thing that the movie was unable to recognize is the fact that Native American Indians and little or no influence on the pilgrim settlement (Schoolhouse Rock). The pilgrims were the first settlers would not have survived without the help of the Native American Indian support. As a result, the movie should have recognized the influence of Native American Indians who usually helped new settlers to survive. They would show other settlers how to fish and plant some plants that could support life. The pilgrims could have, therefore not managed to survive the harsh conditions without this help.
