Notes of a Native Son by James Baldwin
The purpose of the essay is to explain the purpose as to why the author relates to the story of the relationship between black and white America. The basis of the relationship is the color of the skin. There are three reasons evidenced in the story. The reasons are; the father forbids his association with his white teacher and even his white friends, Baldwin states about blacks who are in the military serving the nation in the south usually are mistreated, he is constantly turned down in separated places; opportunities, healthcare facility, and restaurants
The first reason the father forbids his association with his white teacher and even his white friends. The reason is true because, of the fact that white people would always look down upon Negros, and they were not to be trusted, but Baldwin learned not to trust his father. This is clearly exampled in the story. For Example, his father could shallowly disagree with the white teacher for about four-five years as well as had less trust in the white teacher. The evidence presented proves the thesis.
The second reason is that Baldwin states about blacks who are in the military serving the nation in the south usually are mistreated. The reason is true because, the whites demanded a certain kind of behavior from the blacks, which Baldwin had never learned. This is clearly exampled in the story. For Example, he mentions how he was treated at the restaurant where they took longer to serve him, and the waitress said to him, “Negros are not served here,” he felt a fury to the point of throwing a water pitcher at the waitress. The evidence presented clearly proves the thesis.
The third reason is that he is constantly turned down in quarantined places, and health care facilities and the fact that the day his father died was also a massive riot day. The reason is true because a white woman, one of their sponsors, had refused to sing personally and threatened to have them arrested as they struggled to find enough tickets back to Harlem. This is exampled in the story For Example, as mentioned in the story, one of their sponsors, a white woman, had refused to sing and threatened to arrest them. The evidence presented clearly proves the thesis.
