Obesity: A Burning Issue of Modern Society
Introduction
Obesity has risen to epidemic status as the number of obese people is increasing worldwide. It has been associated with the harmful effects of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. The modern society has packaged high-calorie fast food, rapid urbanization, and increased inactive lifestyle thanks to the motorized transportation all have contributed to the world’s global health scare, obesity. To a large extent, obesity is a burning issue in today’s society because it is a sociological problem; however, it is not a burning issue because obesity is a body-society relationship that can easily be dwelt.
Sociological Problem
The modern society plays a vital role in obesity, making it a burning topic that media houses investigate and make it a globally known problem. The increasing obesity numbers are related to the social facts that technology and fast food companies have contributed to this generation’s change of lifestyle. Modern society has presented a gift of making life more comfortable by introducing motorized transport that has reduced the comminuting distances and fast foods that are in place to help people go through the rush hour. Therefore, it is a burning issue due to the modern lifestyle that is increasingly growing and, at the same time, putting human health in jeopardy that later affects the politics, social, and economic growth of the country.
Body-Society Problem
Obesity is a body-society relationship, which makes it not a burning issue in today’s society. It is a choice one gives to themselves. Technology and the modern-day lifestyle should not be blamed as other healthy options that people need to embrace. People can opt to eat organic foods rather than fast foods, use more physical transport like cycling and walking, and engage in physical activities rather than sitting in front of the television the whole day. Thus, the body chooses which activities to go for in a society that can help it be healthy, which makes obesity a non-vital burning issue today.
Conclusion
Media has played it part from enticing fast-food commercials to healthy eating and lifestyle ads. Obesity is indeed a burning issue since it is a sociological factor that presents unhealthy lifestyles to people. However, it is not a burning issue because it a choice the body gets from society, which can be easily eradicated.
