In transformation and conscious businesses, the vision of a business engages all stakeholders, making them see beyond ideas that sway traditional centers of influence and power. Conscious leaders reject short-term thinking but rather engage in using creative business power in invoking a transformation in society they operate in for a sustainable and fulfilling world. This vision of success garners momentum in today’s business world; the purpose of business is conscious capitalism with leaders portraying conscious leadership strategies.

Leadership styles, tactics, and outcomes

Gary Hirshberg

Gary Hirshberg, the co-founder and Chief Organic Optimist of Stonyfield farm Londonderry, NH, is one conscious leader engaging in conscious capitalism. Conscious capitalism is a political and economic philosophy where leaders engage ethically while pursuing profits in their organization. Gary Hirshberg and his co-founder Samuel Kaymen began the nonprofit organic farming school to aid in helping farmers protect the environment and aid family farm s survive and thrive. There came a time when the school required funding; thus, the founders began farming seven cows and initiated selling yogurt. Today, the Stonyfield enterprise is worth $400 million and continue selling organic yogurt. However, Gary Hirshberg noted that while the enterprise ventured into a $50 billion organic food market, the notion would not be enough for the foundation. According to Hirshberg, the businesses’ satisfaction and fulfillment would be attained if water, air, and topsoil are contamination free.

Conscious capitalism advocates for human progress and social cooperation with attributes such as compassion, value creation, collaboration, and trust was undergoing implementation. The CEO has pushed through higher purpose, conscious leadership, stakeholder orientation, and conscious culture. First, Hirshberg has adhered to the tenet of higher purpose, where he developed a mission to attain the business’s success. Hirshberg terms his interests as moving beyond and above short term and narrow views of a business enterprise and interests and has been modeling these aspects as the CEO of Stonyfield. The CEO is an environmental activist and has been offering advice to other organic food enterprises. The leader further incorporated stakeholder orientation in his mission. Stakeholder orientation incorporates stakeholders while concentrating on the businesses’ ecosystem to create and optimize value for all engaging parties.

In the year 1933, Stonyfield became the first dairy processor in the nation where farmers were discouraged from treating their cows with RBST synthetic growth hormone. In the year 2007, Hirshberg guided his Company fund “Climate counts” project where consumers were taught to fight climate change with investments and purchases. Since the year 1998 and 2013, Hirshberg ran a Stonyfield Enterprise for each year with a hundred to two hundred Companies engaged in problem-solving workshops. This way, Hirshberg has ensured that farmers and companies that engage in organic farming benefit from Stonyfield’s enterprise. Such fulfillment impacts not only the society but also the environment in which the enterprise operates. Today, he is reviving the program at the Hirshberg Entrepreneurship Institute. The year 2012 saw the “Just label it” campaign where enterprises would identify ingredients that were genetically modified.

The CEO has been missing from the Company for a while, but his return has seen the re-emergence of a new zeal where the business is the platform of creating his ideal world. In 2018, Hirshberg started the “Make Earth Cool Again” campaign where consumers would engage in voting for the environment by converting and using non-toxic, organic methods in the management of parks and field. As a conscious leader, Hirshberg embraced the “we” mentality rather than the “me” notion while driving the Stonyfield enterprise. Hirshberg emphasizes that environmental conservation is not about being socially responsible but rather the right way of business operation, and that’s the secret to a successful business. He cites that throughout his years of service and commitment, paving the path for others to follow has been his mission. By advocating for a conscious culture system, Hirshberg was able to create a moral and social fabric of organic business with conscious capitalism policies permeating the business. As such, the business has been able to thrive since a spirit of cooperation, and trust has been fostered among all stakeholders. The business continues to expand for more than three decades.

Justification on Gray Hirshberg style of leadership

Based on Hirshberg’s commitment and his continued pursuit for a successful business. I have learned that the primary success attribute is not knowledge education, connections, or money. Instead, determination plays a role in the transformation of businesses and ultimately leads to business success. One should judge themselves and others depending on how quickly they recover after being knocked down but not on how well they do when things go great. Gary Hirshberg has demonstrated himself as an exceptional leader through commitment to cultivating conscious capitalism practices in the individual level of developing oneself.

My engagement in servant leadership

The concept of conscious capitalism is crucial in today’s business world for stakeholders, investors, and consumers. As a servant leader, an ideal business environment relates to engaging all stakeholders within the organization, thus feeling the respect, value, and appreciation offered by the organization. By incorporating servant leadership, I would be able to develop an influential work culture with high stakeholder engagement and morale. If I were in the same position as Gary Hirshberg, I would engage in leading by example, show employees the importance of the job, and aid my team in growing and developing as Gary Hirshberg has done. Also, I would engage in aspects such as personally caring for my team and ask for feedback.

As a servant leader in the organic business, caring incorporates empathy while offering advice on positive work balance. The aspect also incorporates handling employees as individuals who require to be happy. An example is showing employees that we not only care about farmers but also the healthy eating habits of employees. As a leader, engaging in rewards for employees who attain wellness checkups to meet healthy eating habits would be undertaken. Secondly, improving teams and leadership is crucial. As such, I would seek feedback from team members on our projects such as “Cool Earth Again” to gain their ideas and insight. Their contribution would be crucial in the businesses’ success since, by the end of the day, it would be our success as a team. The leadership situation would be better since I would incorporate servant leadership and conscious capitalism as strategies for the business operation. This way, I would be able to engage in a higher purpose, conscious leadership, stakeholder orientation, and conscious culture conscious capitalism tenets while being a servant leader.
