OSI Food Solutions continues with its quest to take over the world food industry by acquiring smaller companies
OSI food solutions have without a doubt grown to become a force of innovation in the food industry. The company which started as a single butcher shop in the early 1900s has experienced massive expansion where they currently run over 65 food processing facilities in seventeen countries. Despite its initial mission of supplying high-quality meat to residents of Chicago, OSI Food solutions have redefined its mission to serve customers beyond the American border.
The world market leader in the supply of value-added meat products has its roots in the early 20th century, when Otto Kochowsky, a German immigrant opened a butcher store in Illinois. In the early years, Otto Kolchowsky focused on supplying high-quality meat cuts to customers in the Oak Park neighborhood. The business continued to boom, and Mr. Otto decided to register a company which he branded as “Otto & Sons.” Otto Kolchowsky continued to nurture the family business until early 1950 were when he brought his sons on board.
In early 1960, Otto & Sons entered into a mega-deal with the McDonalds who owned a string of fast food restaurants. The Ottos’ were to become the sole supplier of meat patties to all the McDonalds food outlets. The deal enabled Otto & Sons to expand their processing capabilities and also to improve their processing standards. Otto & Sons continued to build a great reputation, and in the early 1970s, the management structure of the company changed to include Sheldon Lavin, who joined as a partner.
During this time, Otto & Sons rebranded to OSI Food Solutions. Sheldon Lavin, a financial consultant, and investment enthusiast would see the transformation of OSI Food Solutions from a local company into a multi-national food processor and distributor of high-quality meat and organic food products. In a bid to achieve its new mission, OSI Food Solutions commenced the acquisition of other food processing facilities in other countries.
Sheldon Lavin’s initial focus was in Europe, which has one of the largest food markets. After taking over the European fast food industry, Sheldon Lavin then moved to Asia where they have already stamped authority as the premier food company.
