OUTCOMES OF CONFLICTS IN AN ORGANIZATION 2
Outcomes of Conflicts in an Organization
Question 1
When conflict arises, it brings change in the organization which acts to bring positivity to the organization. For example, when an organization has a management team that serves to exploit the staff, a conflict may arise that will force the staff to demand a change in the management policies or a complete overhaul of the management team.
Conflict may arise when the team working in an organization does not have a clear objective. The conflicting parties will disagree and have different opinions, and once the conflict is resolved, both parties will have a clear goal of what they want to achieve giving a sense of direction.
Apart from arriving at a common goal, conflicts can act as a gateway to welcoming innovations in a company. When conflicting parties are searching for means through which they can resolve the cause of the conflict, divergent ideas and solutions are laid down. These ideas when they are combined they bring new ways that did not exist in the organization thereby triggering innovations.
Conflicts trigger intra-group cohesion since the conflicting parties come to a common ground where they have a sense of direction, therefore, triggering unity between the conflicting parties.
Question 2
Although conflicts can serve to bring positivity to the organization, there are disadvantages of having conflicts arising in an organization. Conflicts lead to poor performance by the employees since an individual will unleash total commitment to the duties assigned in a conducive environment. When conflicts arise, they bring an atmosphere of tension which in return makes the staff not to work optimally.
Conflicts lead to time and resource wastage which is as a result of distractions of the employees. When conflict arises, the normal schedule assigned to the employees is distracted since that conflict requires time to be resolved before commencing duties. In such a scenario, the organization commits its time and other resources to bring the conflict into an end (Rahim, 2017).
Conflicts may cause depression and trauma among the conflicting parties which may have negative effects on the organization including loss of crucial human resource in the company.
