The first objective of the coming week is to learn and apply person-centered care. In this aspect of nursing, we learn how to develop a health care plan that a patient is ready and willing to try. In patient-centered practice, we learn how nurses should be flexible in letting patients be equal partners in deciding health care plans that are best for them. Another objective is to learn and master the safe therapeutic interventions that nurses can use to manage patients.
In the upcoming week’s program at the community hospital, there are many activities lined up. I will be giving immunization to children and offering prenatal services to pregnant women and their unborn babies. This week I will be in the dermatology department understanding and helping the doctor with patients with skin issues. I will also be visiting homes and giving education on healthy living and offering social care services. This is in line with the hospital’s policy of creating interventions for managing obesity and other lifestyle diseases.
This week I experienced a workplace hazard that was caused by too much stress and pressure from the hospital. I accidentally spilled the patient’s medicine. I feel like the instructor could have expressed his disappointments privately instead of confronting me in front of my classmates.
The objective this week was to learn the importance of critical thinking in the nursing profession. Critical thinking enables nurses to identify potential problems patients are suffering from and formulate an intervention that would help the patient. This should be done effectively without loss of time. Critical thinking enables nurses to combine their scientific and practical logic to help a patient. Critical thinking is key in interpreting, analyzing, evaluating and offering explanations to patients
