Paula Wallace
Paula Wallace is an educational specialist from Atlanta. She studied at Furman University where she graduated with a B.A degree. She also studied at Georgia State University where she graduated with Ed.S degrees. After graduating Paula started her career in the Atlanta schools and especially public schools where she was an elementary teacher.
In 1978, Wallace joined the education business by co-founding the Savannah School of Art and Design (SCAD). SCAD is a nonprofit school and it is accredited for creative careers. SCAD is said to be the best comprehensive design and art university in the US. SCAD has branches in several locations including Atlanta and Savannah, Hong Kong, Georgia and, Lacoste, France. It has an eLearning program that has received some awards.
Wallace has served several positions in the school. She started as the school dean as well as the provost where she served for a period of 22 years and later became the president. Before 2000, Wallace also served as the vice president of the school. Wallace as appointed as the president of the university in 2000 by the school’s Board of Trustees. She is still the president up to date.
Since the appointment of Wallace as the school’s president, the school has witnessed massive growth. Most of the school’s branches have been launched during her time as the president. The school has seen a growth in the number of students from 5,000 to 15,000 students and more.
Wallace has led to the establishment of several events in the university including SCAD deFINE ART, SCAD sand Arts Festival, SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival and, SCAD aTVfest. Under Wallace, the university also established three museums and also some school initiatives.
SCAD offers more than one hundred academic degrees. In 2015, Red Dot ranked SCAD among the best universities in Europe and America. The university has been several awards because of its services.
