Peer Critique: International Mass Media PSA
Collapse
Strengths
You have begun your piece with a solid introduction that instantly highlights your opinions regarding the subject matter, Drunk Driving. Giving an example of a gory repercussion of drunk driving has even emphasized, and driven the point home “…the most serious being death to yourself or an innocent victim.” By highlighting the grave consequences of drunk driving, you have ingrained in the readers how bad it is.
Your explanations are also straightforward and very detailed, giving the reader an easy time in navigating your work.
Opportunities for Improvement
In the last paragraph, you should have elaborated more in-depth on the role that the mass media plays in contributing and shaping our attitudes with time. For instance, when you cited, “Our continual exposure to media messages began to reinforce specific mental processes and behaviours”, you should have given an elaborate example of how this could happen.
Successes
Your argument is solid, and you have offered enough backing to support your claims on drunk driving. Besides, you have done remarkably well in the description, and decoding of the various symbols used MADD campaign ad. Moreover, your work is very catchy and is very interesting to read. The fact that you ended your work with an active call to action, ‘Never Drink and Drive!’ is also very unique and timely.
Missed Opportunities
While you have done a great job giving ideas, and explaining various concepts and meeting objectives, your work would have been better if you gave more examples. For each argument, you bring, providing a strong case would make your job even better. It would be best if you had also pointed out an additional symbolism tool used in the MADD media campaign.
