Performance Techniques
Drug use and abuse have become the most significant issues that impact the lives of youths in many societies. Most of the teenagers are either using drugs for fun or using them as a result of the addiction. During the December holiday, our church organized campaigns to create awareness on the dangers of drug use among the youths. The church decided to invite prevalent gospel artist to perform during the roadshow. I decided to attend one of the performances that were organized in my neighbor. I, therefore, was able to observe several performance techniques that have learned in class.
First of all, stage personality is one crucial factor that affects the atmosphere in an event or performance. I was able to note the artists had different stage personality. Some moved all the stage as they sang with vigor and energy. Others just held their mic and didn’t make much body movements on stage. As a result, the performance that involved much body movements on stage worked perfectly well because it attracted a bigger audience who participated with much energy, singing, and dancing along. The performance style also created an atmosphere filled with cheering and happiness at a high level.
Secondly, most of the artists used a crucial technique of involving the audience in the performance. They sang the songs allowed the audience to sing the chorus before they could move on to the next hook. Engaging the audience worked well because the audience seemed to know the songs better and enjoyed singing along.
However, at some point, the atmosphere at the event became tense as one of the artists decided to make stage movements and dance that seemed to annoy the audience. It was a gospel session; hence any secular behavior would attract a different reaction from the audience. As a result, the audience refused to sing along and were shouting at the artists. Immediately the master of the ceremony took the mic and stage to invite another artist who stabilized the atmosphere back to normal.
Finally, I would employ other techniques such as changing sound patterns to make my performance lively and enjoyable in the future. I would, therefore, hire a sound engineer for the event, who plays a very crucial role in enhancing a happy atmosphere for me and the audience.
