Personal and Community Level Conflicts
Short essay question number two is as follows: What distinguishes Community level conflict from interpersonal conflicts?
By definition, interpersonal conflicts that are witnessed where two or more people hold divergent opinions, have incompatible goals or believe in different viewpoints. Distinctively, interpersonal conflicts are associated with differences in attitudes, culture, personalities, and culture. These unique features of interpersonal conflicts include the antagonistic patterns that are directed toward the characteristics of an individual. Because people will differ on the grounds of personality, some common features include rudeness and, in other cases, contentious disagreements.
Whereas interpersonal conflicts are concerned with differences in individuals’ values, beliefs, cultures, perceptions, and principles, community-level conflicts are associated with the disagreements that are central to the operations and location of community facilities and the impact of such facilities. The differences that are discussed and argued in the community level conflict are emotive and charged. Usually, the stakes are high, and people take sides on various opinions.
Unlike interpersonal conflict, where the conflict has simple mechanisms for the resolution of their differences, community-level conflicts require comprehensive approaches to resolve the disputes as individuals, neighbors, and leaders would be pitted against each other. The impact of such differences is, in often, long-lasting and manifesting in damaged relationships for several years.
Also, in most cases, interpersonal conflicts would involve simple issues, one or more Individual, and perceptional matters. On the other hand, community-level conflicts involve complex issues, multiple stakeholders, and private or public decision-making approaches that have to be adopted. In some cases, media is involved in raising matters in community conflict in the public arena. Therefore, once the issues of community conflict are in the public space, public deliberations have to be instituted. Here, measures such as public policies have to be enacted.
