I have always wanted to be a dancer since young. Growing up in a small town and being brought up by a single father was not easy. I would go with my dad’s radio to practice some dance moves I had seen on TV at a young age. Luckily, with the support of my dad, I moved to LA to pursue my dream. I worked so hard and joined the best dance crew around. During one of the rehearsals, a famous dance company representative came around to scout for talents, and accidentally I poured coffee on her outside the dance studio. That not being enough; when dancing, I ended up missing a step and fell on her when the camera was live. That seemed to be the end of my dance career.
Back in my hometown, I found a dance studio opened, and many little girls had been inspired to be dancers by me but lacked a teacher. I decided to train them as I thought of what to do later with my life. At first, I thought teaching little kids to dance would have been easy since their bodies are still very flexible and can easily be bent at any angle; that was not the case, teaching children to dance was so tiresome, as they did not have any basis and did not put on enough efforts to improve their skills. I had to become tough and hard on the kids, which led them to fear me, and whenever they would see me, they would be scared. Nothing comes easily, so the training had to continue, and due to my strictness, the kids’ performance started improving. The kids were able to win the local dance competition and eligible for the next level.
During the national kids’ dance competition, I met an international dance trainer interested in me and offered me a chance to be the lead dancer in his next choreography. I was in a dilemma between waiting for the kid’s performance and pursuing my dream. Eventually, I decided to go with the trainer; the kids were disappointed, but I thought that was the best decision for me, as my whole life, I have always dreamed of joining an international dance crew. I could not concentrate on the training since my mind was still conflicted, and as a leader, I felt guilty for inspiring those children and leaving them at the most crucial time. I decided to leave the training and watch their performance. I found the kids discouraged and very low; only after explaining myself and asking for their forgiveness did they gather their courage and step up on stage. It is then that I realized that being a leader not only involves you giving instructions but also a leader is a source of courage and determination. There is no leader without followers, so everyone has a role to play in a team. Not only did I inspire and change those children’s lives, but I also learned how to be a good leader.
