Personal Marketing Plan
Vision
Many times, a vision statement is said to be the picture of the organization’s future. It is the inspiration and framework of all the planning strategically (Ward, 2018). In this case, a vision or a career goal is basically a CV profile or the career aim you have which is essentially the description of your career portfolio (Slingo, 2019).
My career goal is to grow in a progressive organization, which can offer a great variety of tasks and provide challenging opportunities, and where the blend of my experience and skills can help in achieving greater goals of the company and be of great benefit to the society. I desire to work within the Media industry or any other related field because I have the passion and a key interest in building a career in media production.
The company I would like to work with is Walt Disney as a Media Director.
Marketing summary
The summary is under three elements that are, SWOT, core competency and competition. SWOT is a simple and powerful tool that helps in developing the strategy of your business, whether it is a start-up or existing company. Strengths and weaknesses are internal factors that you have control over while opportunities and threats are the external factors (Parsons, 2018). SWOT will help in analyzing my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in an organized manner. My strengths are: a good team player, proactive at the workplace and have leadership skills. The weaknesses are risk taker (I end up taking too many risks), covering for co-workers and taking on too much responsibility. The opportunities are: having a network of strategic contacts who may offer good advice, a new role that requires me to learn new skills and acquisition of a second language that is German. The threats are weakness in covering for co-workers leading to absenteeism, competition for roles and projects with my colleagues and my firm considering to lay people off due to the current economic position which has led to slow growth in the media industry.
Competition is the rivalry that exists between businesses selling the same products as well as services with the aim of achieving profit and growth in market share (Eric, 2018). Competition is inevitable even in the workplace. Under product, having strength in being proactive, I might face competition from a media proprietor as they work to being proactive too. Under price, with the salary I am getting currently in the firm I am working for, journalists might end up competing with me for the occupation due to the salary range. With place, My geographical preference is a place that is convenient for me and the company. Under the promotion, being a media director, the journalists, and media proprietors may compete with me in the various tasks to be given.
Core competency is a special quality that recruiters in a company have decided to be desirable for employees to have (Cripe, 2002). Analytical thinking is a core competency I have developed in my previous workplace. Whereby, it would come in handy when being proactive on certain issues in the company.
Target markets
This is basically segmenting the market and focusing your marketing efforts on few or key segments that have customers’ desires and needs that match closely with the offerings of your service or product (Ward, 2018). The firms I target based on my career path in media are The Walt Disney Company because it has four diverse business segments under media. The second firm is New Media Film Festival because it has job openings for various media personnel that my skills could fit in perfectly. Thirdly, I would want to work for Sherwood Productions as they have a broad network of clients that the company works with. This would come in handy with my strategic contacts to form collaborations. All these companies are in California.
Cultural literacy
This is a term used to refer to the ability to comprehend and participate in a given culture fluently (Agard, 2017). Walt Disney company’s culture is mainly related to American culture. It motivates employees in the entertainment, amusement, mass media and amusement park industries for excellence. The company normally ensures that ideals that mainly align with the preferences and expectations of customers are reflected on by employees in the four diverse business segments. The company also has attributes of culture that empower employees in maximizing their performance and the profitability of the company. The main traits of the company’s corporate culture are optimism, quality, decency, storytelling, community and innovation (Williams, 2019). This is the same culture that is applied in the job opening that I am applying for.
I understand well the culture of Walt Disney which would compliment my core competency which is analytical thinking through the motivation of the company in choosing the best ways needed to be more successful. Also, my strengths and opportunities would come in handy in having some motivation to positively bring a lot to the table.
Positioning statement
The statement is used in describing how a need of your target market is filled by the service or product you are providing (Hart, 2018). I focus and organize a media company operations around the mission statement so as to attain maximum impact.
Marketing mix
A marketing mix is a strategy tool for marketing, which has a set of tactics that are used by a business in promoting and selling the products in the market (Pahwa, 2018).
Product, in this case, is what I offer. The six product features are: graduate education whereby I had honors in second class upper meaning that the knowledge I got from university would be of importance to the company, four years of experience from my previous company which means I have the know-how of what and how things need to be done, success in being proactive and rewarded for it previously of which it would be of importance to Walt Disney when faced with issues, German language proficiency which would come in handy when on international assignments, leadership skills which would help in leading teams on various projects and lastly, training on extra media skills in terms of filming, projections and getting quality images.
Price is salary. As a media director with experience and based in California, then the average salary in Los Angeles is $152,454. The range falls between $133,451 and$174,985 (Companalyst, 2019).
I plan to look for work in California. Direct channels used are taking the application personally to the company and I sent my application through the company’s email, while indirect channels were: my cousin handed in my application and referral from my previous supervisor.
Promotional tactics used are: social media through LinkedIn which connect me to top employers in the media industry, business cards, referrals because they know my work and competencies, volunteering my services for a period of time which would give the company an idea of the work I do and lastly, taking a test with other seekers of the job position which is competing to get shortlisted.
Implementation
This is basically putting a plan into action. Steps to be taken is finishing my German classes in the next two months and enroll for professional certification in leadership for the next six months to build my leadership skills which are intrinsic.
