Personal Memoir
My mother, Ruth-Ann, happens to be one of the most important people that I have known throughout my life. She always said, “The way you raise your kids largely determines what they became,” which motivated her to raise her children right. Since I was a day old, she started with me, taught me how to walk, among many other things that I find amazing. I cannot imagine the kind of patient she possessed to learn to manage and cope with all the nonsense I made her go through. I can only figure it to have been much more back then. With all the hard times she may have had to go through, she managed to mold me into the person that I’m today, something that I would hope that it happens forever. She has supported everything that I tried, such as soccer and swimming, among other curricular activities. Mothers play special roles in our lives, such as bringing, and that why they are always the best blessings that we have on earth.
Mum taught me many things, but there were some that I used to do, but she did not like it. For instance, I taught myself the habit of doing things at the last minute, and no matter how many times she beat me for being late with my tasks, I always finished late. She tried to teach me how to not postpone, but I do not think she was successful. There is no fun doing anything unless it is done at the last minute when you are under pressure to finish.
Another thing that I remember Ruth-Ann for is that she taught how to ride a bike. I used to admire older children from the neighborhood as they rode along the streets. Mum saw the desire I had and bought me the first bike, which had training wheels, and as soon as I mastered the skill, I got a better one. She did all the work from helping me keep the balance and running beside to make sure that I did not fall. Whenever I returned home with bruises, she would get mad that she left me alone. With time I got better, and I could ride around the neighborhood together with my peers. I loved how it felt protected as you learn a new skill so that you do not get hurt, which was pure love.
Ruth-Ann’s life has been about family being there for every important event. Mum’s main focus has always been the family, whereby she makes sure that birthdays, graduations, and all other events are carried in time. Another thing that makes me remember my mother is that she has stood with me even in my worst moments. For instance, after I finished college, I struggled with my applications from one office to another. Despite that, I had applied for hundreds of positions I did not secure a single position. Mum decided to follow up on the issue after seeing how I suffered, and out of the blue, I was contacted by a recruiter, and for the first time, a got to an interview and finally got a job where I work to date.
When I was at the adolescent stage, I got myself involved in a bad company. We could go swimming in some of the riskiest spots, take drugs, and even steal from the neighborhood. That was the time when I realized that my mother was not just a professor at the university but also a police officer in her house. She bit me up, grounded me, and made all sorts of threats to make me change for the better. When she realized that I was not making any progress, she took me to the juvenile for several months, and sure enough, were it not for her relentless attempts to keep me on the right track, I would be dead or in jail by now.
Ruth-Ann was a woman who loved farming, and despite her tight schedule, she spared some time to take care of her farm. She trained us how to plant and harvest an today; my elder brother has invested in large scale farming, and through it, he has earned himself a name. My mother believed that all her children possessed different abilities and made sure that each one of us got a chance to fully exploit these powers. I never thought someone a busy as she could be there for every event that concerned her five children and funny enough. She never missed any event.
My mother is a lover of nature, and this made her plant trees all-around home. She would beat us up whenever we climbed them or broke braches playing. Also, she had decoration vegetation all around the house, which made the home look like a palace. Nothing mattered to her than beauty. She taught us how to protect the environment and make the best of it.
In summary, Ruth-Ann has every quality of a super mum, and that is why I may never exhaust the list of things that she has taught me over the years. She has been a pillar to all her children and, more importantly, the whole family. I pray that she loves more years to have a chance to see her grandchildren and guide them the way she did when we were young and stupid. Through her, I learned that stealing is wrong, and I stopped taking drugs among other vices that engaged in.
