Personality Analysis essay

Martin Luther was born around 1483 in a town called Eisleben, which is located in the east-central of Germany. He was raised from a family that was firmly devoted to the Roman Catholic faith. The family where martin was born made the church to be the center of his world, and every activity which he involved himself in was according to the faith and doctrine of the Catholic Church. During his time, Martin was among the most influential personality, and most leaders and students still recognize him as a great activist and leader. At the time of his youth, he suffered harsh criticism from his parents, who emerged from the feudal system to be in the middle class as his father was a successful coppersmith. The desire of his father was to see his son climbing to the next ladder of social status in the society.

During his time, Martin is being described as the main architect of the bridge, which facilitated the movement from the European medieval era to the modern era. Most of the historians have ranked Luther as one of the great leaders and emancipators of human history. When Europe was under cultural flourishment, Luther contributed to motivating the public, which participated in mounting uneasiness to the church activities, which further fueled the rebellion movements. With his persistence and calculated and robust propaganda, he led the people to the defiance of the holy Catholic Church. He was the first person to champion a contrary opinion against the Catholic Church, which was the most potent and worldly spread church around the world. When defending for the rebellion against the Roman church, he prompted a prominent religious and social reform, which resulted in the development of the new Christian denomination, which is the Protestantism.

After witnessing that the Catholic Church was morally corrupt, and discovering that some of the teachings were against the bible, Luther decided to set a new interpretation of the Scripture. He redefined the possible relationship between humanity and God. when writing his book titled “On the Babylonian Captivity Of The Church” he brought up the argument that was on the contrary to what was being taught in the catholic church and their believes of the seven sacraments which came out that only two of them were true, these were the Lord’s Supper and the baptism celebration amongst the Christians.

Martin Luther had a vision of the world without discrimination and superiority, which was mostly being preached by the pope and clergy. According to him, he believes that every ordinary man had power, which could enable him to connect to God and repent his or her sin and further ask for forgiveness from the lord. This vision was against the Roman Catholic Church, where the sins were being repent through the clergy who was asking for forgiveness on behalf of the believer. He published a theological thesis which he used to accuse the church of selling indulgences; he distributed the printed copies of his argument and posted them on the door of different church castle around Wittenberg.

The theory of Carl Jung is closely related to Freud’s approach, which concentrates more on the unconsciousness. But when looking at Jung’s philosophy, we find that the level of individual unconsciousness is usually based on psychic energy, which is being guided by spiritual awareness. Another important conclusion on Jung’s theory is that most of the distinct personality usually occurs during the adulthood stage. This essay will analyze the nature of Martin Luther according to Jung’s theoretical approach and by the implementation of the dichotomous facets as well elaborated by Jung’s.

When defining an individual personality, we can apply three significant dimensions, which include introversion and extraversion individuals, or we can apply thinking and feeling or use sensation-intuition. According to Jung’s definitions, Martin’s personality can be categorized as extroversion vs. introversion, as he was an iconic figure whose figure was being viewed around the world by different groups of people. Martin Luther’s energy is being shown by the way he stood with his principles when condemning the wrong within the society.  He also expressed his medieval understanding of the liberty of human beings and was always against the oppressors. He believed and still stood with his conscience regardless of the threats and constant rejections from other people. According to Luther, he believes that it was during his time that someone had to stand and speak the truth and speak for the liberty of the conscience.

Ethical consideration

Several ethical issues must be looked into when using the MBTI personality assessment method. When looking at the MBTI identity of Martin Luther, various considerations must be used for evaluation. The primary point of the moral issue that will be considered first is the overgeneralization of the personalities. It is important to note that every individual is different with the different characters, which makes them distinct from one another. When looking into this issue, we find that Luther is just like any other person who has his personalities and feelings and therefore, should not be generalized.

By bringing the fact out clearly that every person has his or her distinctive traits that will not be found at the next party, this will further mean that people have different abilities. And when considering the strength of Luther that made him stand firm against the Roman Catholic, we find that not every person could manage to confront the church alone. When considering the ethical issue of confidentiality and consent of the participants according to MBTI, and on this analysis of Martin Luther, when we use the dichotomous, we might not reveal a lot about Luther due to the set limitation used in the assessments. Issues like the personal life would be considered as barriers as we will only be open to discuss freely the public consciousness in which Luther is shown to the people.

Reliability and Efficacy of the Assessment

Reliability is being considered on the number of consistency hen carrying the assessment. The consistency will be essential to give a fact about an individual or the personality under the evaluation. When considering measuring the reliability, it is difficult when determining character, this is because an individual nature is qualitative, and therefore it is complicated to action during the assessment. Due to this reason, it isn’t easy to use the MBTI instrument in determining personality.

When using the MBTI instrument on different people, we will find that the reliability is lower, and most of the data will be lacking. Hence there is no accurate assessment. Again it is noted that when we are relying on one device to give different weaknesses, then there is the possibility of leaving crucial information about an individual without being captured. When looking at the story of Martin Luther, we find that he was radical when articulating his ideas, this idea can be considered detrimental to people who were against the change. On the other hand, it can be regarded as decisive to the oppressed who wanted radical changes.

Personal Opinion

I would say that MBTI an excellent method for self-selection when it is used to show how people have different personalities. It is also practical because it is considered as emphasizing tolerance for the differences amongst various individuals, and when considering different people, then the MBTI tool is handy. But even though I would encourage the use of MBTI, it is, however, important that the person using it as administrator should be cautious against the wrong interpretation of the result. It is also essential when analyzing the famous individual within our societies. But sometimes it isn’t easy to give a full summary of the personality analysis of a leader like Martin Luther’s. But it provides us with the opportunity of learning different qualities of Martin Luther.
