PERSONALITY DISORDER
A personality disorder is often mirrored with mental instability, which is more or less an illness that does not allow a person to function without stress. This is just but a lay person’s definition to make the point that the disorder robs the patient of his or her flexibility and stability in terms of thoughts, behavior, and overall response to everyday life and relationships. There are several personality disorders that may be experienced by people both consciously and unconsciously. These disorders have also been acted out by different movie characters in a way that allows the viewers to see the symptoms through the actor’s actions and response towards different things.
An example of an actress who portrays a personality disorder in her character is Betty Cooper. This is seen in the Netflix series that she has acted, including that which is titled ‘Riverdale.’ This particular actress portrays the personality disorder that is referred to as Borderline Personality Disorder. This is a disorder that makes a person undervalue themselves and struggle with things such as emotional instability, insecurities, sense of worthlessness, impulsivity, unstable social relationships, a random self-image that keeps changing, fear of being secluded, anger issues, a daring push to harm themselves, and a feeling of a deep void within themselves.
The movie ‘Riverdale’ is set out as a murder investigation of blossom twins who die mysteriously. Betty Cooper features as one of the main characters. I would categorize her as a person with a borderline personality disorder because she consistently shows symptoms such as occasionally shifting her personality, especially when she is faced with situations that draw out too much emotion from her. Moreover, she seeks to isolate herself whenever she feels overwhelmed and uses this as some coping mechanism even when the supposed danger or threat only exists in her thoughts. She also shows a lot of anxiety in her actions and responses.
