Assignment Directions:

- Brainstorm about the topic of your Persuasive Essay using each of your chosen three methods. Each brainstorming session should last at least 10 minutes in length.
- Document the information from your brainstorming sessions in the space provided below. The information for each brainstorm should be substantive in nature, providing further insight into your current knowledge on your topic.
- If you choose to brainstorm by mapping/webbing, document your brainstorm, please use the Smart Art feature within Word to create the map.
Documentation of Brainstorm:
Record and identify your brainstorm strategies below, using as much space as needed for each entry. Make sure your information is substantive and is on your essay topic. Please do not write about the brainstorming strategies in general.
Brainstorm One: Break down a Topic (Abortion)
Definition | A medical procedure performed for pregnancy ending by removing the placenta and fetus (Medlineplus 2020). |
Types of Abortion | Two types of abortion include medical abortion by using pills and surgical abortion in which there is a procedure to end a pregnancy by removing it. |
Total Abortions in the US | 862,320 abortions were performed in the US in 2017. |
Arguments in favor of Abortion | 1- It is the right of a woman to choose the decision about her body as it is her body and she has the right over it. 2- A ban over abortion would leave women to face death from the hands of black market abortionists. 3- Abortion legalization does not mean that abortion cases have been encouraged to increase (Andrade 2020). |
Arguments against Abortion | 1- The fetus is a living baby and pregnancy termination means ending the life of a living baby that should be taken as a crime. 2- Other options for fostering care should be considered instead of killing and aborting a life. 3- Abortion legalization is against ethics and is an immoral act of killing a baby. Therefore, only selective abortion should be exercised only in the situation where a mother’s life becomes at stake without abortion, if a fetus is considered “wrong” (Andrade 2020). |
Conclusion | It is concluded that abortion should only be legalized in a selective and complex situation of pregnancy where the mother’s life is in danger if abortion is not performed, otherwise, it should be banned in normal cases. |
Brainstorm Two: Listing (Abortion)
- Abortion – Procedure to end a pregnancy.
- Types – Two types of abortion i) Medical abortion, ii) Surgical abortion.
- Total 862,320 abortion cases in 2017 in the US (Guttmacher Institute 2020).
- Women have the right to make decisions about their body.
- Ban on abortion fosters black market abortions.
- Legal approval of abortion does not increase cases.
- The killing fetus is ending a life in abortion.
- Other options apart from abortion should be exercised.
- Ethical issues in abortion encourage to foster only selective abortion.
- The conclusion supports selective abortion and banning it in all other normal cases due to ethical concerns.
