Persuasive Speech on Why Everyone Should Donate Blood

Attention Getter: Through blood donation, up to three lives that would otherwise perish could be saved. Therefore, it is an implication that twenty people can salvage sixty lives by donating blood. It is imperative to underscore that the act of blood donation has far-reaching effects and impacts on different people’s lives. Blood donation has the potential of helping your family, friends, or neighbours. Therefore, this is a life-saving contingency that everyone should be concerned about (Busby, 2019).

Transition: Being a central medical administration component it is imperative to create awareness to the members of the society on the need for blood transfusion

  1. Thesis Statement: (Statement of Purpose): Being a strong proponent of philanthropy and an activist of the emancipation of human beings from all forms of bondage (social, economic, political and even mental), I find the subject of blood donation quite central to my heart. It is on these grounds that I have delved into researching credible research on the need to donate blood by members of society. In the following presentation, I would like to discuss the need to engage in blood donation to a donor.

Transition: As indicated by experts in the medical industry it is important to conduct adequate research to establish the underlying facts about every bit of information.

  1. Ethos: The following presentation has been compiled from peer-reviewed academic sources as well as medical journals. Additionally, being a well-groomed scholar in this field, I have employed my expertise skills to deliver a speech that is devoid of biases at all.

Transition: Several reasons account for blood donation as a requirement for all citizens. Below are some of the reasons underpinning the need for blood donation among members of society.

Reason #1: It is approximated that after every three seconds a patient in the US hospitals need blood. In other words, approximately 1,200 patients need blood to support and sustain their lives in just one hour. That implies a lot of blood is needed daily. Therefore, by accepting to donate blood we shall be able to donate blood we shall touch several lives. It is important to understand that through blood donation one shall be saving a life that would have otherwise perished. Blood donation can be donated in advance to help in enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery at the facilities since healthcare is very sensitive and requires urgency (Busby, 2019). It is worth noting that blood donors should be done by a healthy person to minimize complicating the health status of the recipients.

Blood cannot be processed in the laboratories or through industrial processes like other products. It has no substitutes. This leaves us with only one option: to donate the blood in our system to support the lives of others. In terms of utilitarianism, we need to ensure equity for all of the members of our society, therefore, when one has an excess of blood in his/her system there is no harm in donating some of the (excess blood) to support others who are in need.

Transition: Besides, blood donation has several benefits to the donor(s)

  1. Reason #2: Blood donation has several advantages to the donor which every member of the society should capitalize on and utilize for personal gain. First through blood donation on can access free health check-up since before donating blood to support other’s lives the physicians will examine the health status of the donor. The mini-physical examination can provide the donor with excellent insight into their health status (Patel, et al. 2019). In particular, it can help in earlier detection of health problems that would be an indication of potential health risks for certain diseases. Blood is also tested for diseases like hepatitis type B and C, HIV/AIDS, syphilis, Trypanosoma cruzi, and West Nile virus. Also, it allows the donor to know their blood groups as well (Uche, 2014). In short, through blood donation, an individual will gain a lot of insights about his or her health status that would help in improving health management for one’s own life.

Transition: Furthermore, it is imperative to underscore that blood donation is a prerequisite for healthy living as indicated in the following paragraph(s)

  1. Reason #3: Blood donation can also help donors in keeping and maintaining healthy lives. According to the 2013 report by the journal of blood medicine, regular blood donation helps in lowering the amount of iron in the body of individuals. Since high blood iron in the body is perceived as one of the predisposing conditions to cases of heart attack, maintaining the iron level at minimal levels through regular blood donations has the potential of reducing the cases of heart attack (Uche, 2014).  Therefore it is imperative to note that by engaging in blood donation we are not only helping to save lives of others, but we are also contributing to our life improvements that would impact our productivity and longevity of life in the long run.

Lastly, the greatest benefit of blood donation is the heroic feeling that it instils in someone. It is perceived as a gift of life by the healthy to those who are injured or sick. As such when one is convinced that his/her actions have contributed to saving other people’s lives, they feel motivated and inspired.  The feeling of having impacted other people’s lives makes one feel great (Uche, 2014).

(Transition)

  • Conclusion Blood donation is a noble duty that every person should undertake to help in saving other people’s lives. It is also a healthy course as it allows individuals donating blood to know their health status. Through blood donation, we stand a chance to access free medical and physical examinations that can inform our life choices.

Transition: We need to have a strong feeling for others who are in need and show a duty of care by supporting their medical needs.

Final Appeal:  Baring in mind that blood cannot be manufactured, I strongly appeal to every citizen to accept the concept as it manifests not only brotherhood/sisterhood but also plays an important role in maintaining healthy body balance to the donors. We need to show concern to our family members when they are in need.
