I want to grow in the physical, mental and emotional aspects of life. As an adult, I am keen to create a unique personal identity and smoothly live through the midlife crisis before reaching old age. Through this process, various emotional, psychological and emotional changes occur. Having developed physically, emotionally, and psychology to a level during childhood and adolescent stages, I still look forward to a process of growth or development in these areas. Through growth and development, I will gain and learn new experiences. In this paper, the reasons why I would like to continue growing in these areas will be succinctly elaborated.

Physical Development

I want to develop a healthy and physically fit body as I go through adulthood. By eating healthy and working out, I will be able to maintain a physically fit body and avoid diet-related health conditions. Research shows that various changes take place as a person enters adulthood. These changes are besides those which occur earlier in life. Adults pass through three main physical development phases. The first stage is early adulthood and then to middle adulthood. The final step is late adulthood. Early adulthood takes place at the beginning of 20 years old through to 35 years old. During early adulthood, an individual can continue to add some weight and height. Hormonal changes continue to take place. However, the hormonal changes are less pronounced as compared to those which occur during adolescence. At this stage, the physical development is less dramatic.

On the other hand, middle adulthood occurs approximately between 35 years and 65 years old. During this stage, a person begins to see more conspicuous changes. An individual also begins to feel their physical body changes. It is also at this phase that the person starts to think about their physical development once again. The most identifiable change is reduced skin elasticity. At this stage, people possibly begin to acquire anti-ageing creams in an attempt to get rid of the skin wrinkles which emerge and the reduced skin elasticity.

Besides the reduced skin elasticity, the weight gain which occurs attract significant attention of the older individual. The person also begins to lose flexibility and strength. Thinning of hair which even starts to change colour and become grey occur. Women begin to experience loss of their ability to become pregnant and reproduce, what is referred to as menopause. At around 65 years of age, people enter the late adulthood phase. The physical changes which occur during this phase might not show positive results. The individual begins to experience significant adverse effects from ageing, and the body begins to tire and slow down. This is the last physical change stage, where the skin wrinkles start to be more noticeable. The individual begins to show brown age-spots on the skin. It is at this time that an individual begins to experience deteriorating eyesight needing them to use eyeglasses.

There are often two principal physical concerns linked to an adult’s physical development which become substantially evident during late adulthood. A person begins to lose bone mass and cognitive functions. People may also experience other physical issues such as malnutrition diabetes, heart diseases, arthritis and the inability to take in vital nutrients and vitamins. While age-associated transformations cannot be stopped entirely, the symptoms can be managed through medical care, exercise and proper diet. Physical health is related to the mental health of a person while going through various physical development stages. I want to maintain a healthy physical body to ensure that I am free of stress, anxiety or depression. A wholesome physique will also help reduce the risk of developing diet-related conditions like diabetes, hypertension and heart-related disorders.

Mental and Emotional Development

During adulthood, psychological and emotional changes become noticeable as they occur. During early adulthood, the psychological and emotional changes become more pronounced as compared to physical transformations. This phase is often critical for a person’s mental and emotional development as people attempt to understand their place in society. It is during this stage that people make crucial life decisions concerning their living arrangements and careers. As people try to find their way through the world and become more independent, their choices and the emotional consequences often cause significant effects on the view of who they are.

One of the most significant aspects of emotional and psychological development is the focus that is put on the formation of relationships. People start to form intimate relationships a challenging processes. Additionally, individuals begin to understand their independent identities to help associations to develop fully. Family formation and marriage also occur in early adulthood. Psychological and emotional well-being allows one to form and grow these relationships successfully. Developing emotional intelligence and habits can help me navigate through various life challenges and make the right decisions that have less negative psychological consequences.

Emotional intelligence will also enable me to understand and control or manage my emotions. As a result, I will be able to set achievable goals. By developing relationships, I will be able to create feelings and show empathy for other people. Emotional skills will enhance my academic performance and professional performance later in my career, as I will be able to keep my cool even in difficult or challenging situations. As a result, I will have less or no behavioural problems and emotional distress.
