Plato’s philosophical works
Plato’s philosophical works have had incomparable influence among individuals worldwide. Moreover, his work rotates around individuals’ perceptions regarding societal life and their beliefs. He also involved matters concerning political, human, and spiritual related issues as part of humanity. Moreover, his innovations have raised heated concerns in various communities as he contradicts different beliefs that individuals in diverse populations have. Furthermore, Plato’s argument about the republic is that this phenomenon was the basis of all the societies and collectively created the political foundations of communities. Besides, he believed that from the republic, social justice emerged, which then led to the coming of the individual’s justice. Therefore, from Plato’s argument, the republic is a combination of political, social, society as well as justices involved in the population arena. Besides, Plato had a different understanding of the soul that differed from what the community believes in contemporary society. He also assumed that the soul is a distinct part of the body and starts to exist first before joining with the body. Therefore, Plato had various ideologies concerning the republic as well as the soul.
Plato introduced unique ideas and intended to introduce rational perceptions of form and the association between them. Moreover, he explained that the concept of the republic is a parallel consideration of the soul of any given nation as well as that of the individuals (History, 2019). From the two elements, Plato recognized the chronological order of rulers, their aides, and the general population in a given nation. This aspect also enabled him to realize the connection between reason, emotions, and individuals’ desires (History, 2019). Just as a critical consideration of human beings, this phenomenon should prevail among societies without compromising it for something else.
Most of Plato’s framework was based on the republic, which is a critical component in political theory. Plato opposed the opinion of the Greek Democracy, forcing him to come with his approach of the human soul. However, one of the significant areas of concern for Plato was the identification of the role of women. However, most nations during this time were patriarchal, and women had no political as well as the property rights of women (Oregon State a, n.d). Plato tried to define political systems, where he mainly focused on the equality of both genders. He realized that society should accept the ideology of men and women having the same roles both as guardians and the rulers.
Plato used political theory to explain the aspect of the republic, where he did it in terms of the society as well as the political order. Moreover, the theory claims that individuals feel proud when they pursue what is best for them about their abilities. For example, he realized that students could enjoy pursuing success, while the policemen hope to achieve security, and leaders aim at achieving justice for all citizens. However, according to Oregon State b (n.d), for individuals to achieve personal excellence, they must consider various factors of the soul, which entails the reason, spirit, and appetite. The right aspect helps individuals’ to seek the facts which lead to success (Oregon State b, n.d).
Moreover, this rational soul is the part of the soul that seeks and loves the events. Plato believed that the most critical aspect of human accomplishment is the ability to reason. Besides, the rational soul is also capable of consciously comprehending of the good as well as the apprehension of the truth of formal logic such as the presence of numbers, and quantities.
Plato believed that numbers possess formal association both in numerical and verbal logic (Derryl, 2017). Additionally, he claimed that numbers were independent regarding their forms. Moreover, the spirit looks for honor while the appetite aspect seeks for material satisfaction with things such as food, drinks, and safety. However, according to Plato, in various cases, the desired element differs from the reason phenomenon. It provides evidence of people undertaking what they want and not doing performing in the areas of their qualifications.
Plato, in his opinions about the republic and the social justice system, illustrated the components of this phenomenon. He argued that for a nation to portray justice, it must possess factors such as the wisdom which originates from intelligent decisions as well as the leaders’ knowledge. Additionally, this aspect entails courage, which helps people to defend the materials such as the land while tirelessly assisting rulers to achieve their set goals and objectives. Moreover, it involves self-discipline, which is a result of the above factors. Justice requires doing what is naturally right for an individual.
Plato had diverse perceptions of the republic ideal. According to Derryl, Plato’s belief of this phenomenon was that it would be vital for the republic ideal to be governed by the philosophers who were to hold the position of a king (2017). However, most philosophers were not interested in political issues as they claimed the politicians use their corrupt mechanisms for individual gains. Besides, philosophers could not forego their activities in favor of power. As a result, he advocated that rational souls must occupy the rightful place for the rulers of the republic.
Numerous philosophical theories about the soul exist. Moreover, according to Plato, wise souls make the correct decisions while the foolish ones go for the wrong ideas and perceptions. Furthermore, this phenomenon also elaborates that the wise souls are intelligent when making decisions and are always after satisfying lives. According to Derryl (2017), Plato believed knowledge was inherent, and learning involved remembering of the past. He further argued that before the souls are created, they have to undergo various stages of development, some of which are difficult for mortal human beings.
Moreover, he believed that unwise souls have to work hard to achieve what they want. The principal disadvantage of these souls is that they are quite forgetful. On the other hand, Plato described wise souls as those who remember a lot of things and do not have to work so hard to achieve what they need in life.
From Plato’s ideal of the republic, I stand for the idea that this phenomenon is based on the communities which collectively form the political grounds. I also concur with him that the republic involves the integration of related social issues as well as the political and the society. Moreover, I also believe that social justice, which contributes to individuals’ justice, is a significant aspect of Plato’s idea of the republic. About this information, I believe my soul lies under the rational element. This aspect is because the reasoning soul tries to look for information to get the exact findings and not working under assumptions.
