This is apropos Khaleeq Kiani’s article ‘Political
noise clouding the inevitable‘ (July 20).
In this technological age, power consumption is an important element of society and it also influences the
growth of the country. In contemporary times, where every individual is
connected online on different social media apps to buy and sell the
commodities. In these circumstances, the massive load shedding has a tremendous
effect on the economy and other aspects of life as well.
Due to global climate
change, the weather of the Karachi and other parts of Pakistan is affected by
extreme conditions and increased heat waves. In such a situation, it is good
for people to have less sun exposure in day timings to keep their self-save. In
fact, in this pandemic time, the government of the country also expecting the
same from people to avoid going out unnecessarily and staying safe at home but
this massive load shedding is forcing people to come out of their small houses
and spend their leisure time outside doing non-productive activities which
increase their risks of getting contact with the diseases. Moreover, it is also
impacting the small online businesses started by the youth in a country; as the
load shedding prevents people from accessing the internet and due to which both
buyers and sellers cannot check their trading details which impact the business
and ultimately to the economy. Therefore, it is a dire time for the authorities
to resolve this challenge of massive load shedding.
They should think and bring
alternative models to cope with the power sector problems. The new companies should also be given a chance to enter the market and to serve people. This will increase
competition between the companies, and eventually beneficial to the consumer.
It also impacts online businesses which will help the people progress.
Therefore, the government should aim to create the environment which can bring
the internet and electric tariff rates affordable to the people so that it can
increase their purchasing power and ultimately contribute to the development of
the country’s economy.
