Prayer

There are some problems with the contents of the argument. First, children in public schools came from different religious groups and, this implies that requiring them to participate in a Christian religious program is disruptive.  Secondly, religion is private while schools are public; therefore, advocates of this argument should realize that the two should not mix. Such a requirement is dangerous because it can introduce children to religious differences they were not aware they existed.  Consequently, this can cause hostility towards a particular religious group. Moreover, some students believe in prayers while others do not and it would not be acceptable to introduce prayers as a part of daily routine in public schools.

I think that the language of the argument is coercive. It is not right for public schools to schedule Christian programs as part of the school day because prayers should be voluntary, not mandatory. More distressing, implementing such programs will compromise the civil rights of children that safeguards the rights of individuals from the tyranny of the majority.  For instance, they would compel the minority students to conform which religious practices they do not support. In this case, these students are likely to suffer humiliation and harassment because they will be expected to submit to a daily religious exercise against their will.

Therefore, the movement to allow prayer in public schools is a major threat to our freedom serves as the premise sentence. I feel that this premise is acceptable because any requirement that would force public schools to promote or endorse Christian programs prior to any school day is unconstitutional.   In other words, prayers should only be voluntary and not coercive or disruptive in any way.

Further, the concluding statement is that the requirement by prayer advocate that Christian programs should be part of the school day is not acceptable. It is a move that will threaten the freedom of students considering that they came from different religious backgrounds.
