Problem Statement
Drug and alcohol abuse is very common, especially among young people. Drug abuse can be defined as a situation where people take legal drugs. This applies to those who use alcohol, prescribed medications, and other legal substances in the wrong way (Tang et al., 2016). An example, when a person decides to take three tablets of drugs instead of two as directed by the doctor, this is drug abuse. Consumption of too much alcohol is also considered as an abuse. Drug abuse impacts the functioning of the human body since they contain some chemicals. Some of the drugs that are commonly abused include over the counter drugs, alcohol, heroin, and marijuana, among others.
When looking at this issue, it is of great concern because it affects not only individuals but also the nations. Drug abuse causes addiction, where the users must keep on using them for their bodies to operate effectively. Apart from causing addiction, productivity is affected because it leads to health problems. People have different reasons as to why they abuse drugs even though some do it knowing the side effects.
When looking at the society, most of the young people keep dropping out of school, while others perform poorly despite having all the resources which are required. There is also an increased case of health issues such as lung cancer, liver infections, and other chronic diseases (Srivastava, 2017). When looking at the society, there are significant problems such as domestic violence, low productivity, robbery with violence, and other problems. Thus, this topic on drug and alcohol abuse will provide some of the measures that can be taken to carb social implications brought by drug abuse.
