Programmed decisions are the decisions that are made by managers that are repetitive and have taken place in the past. These types of decisions have been made many times that the managers of the organization had developed guidelines and rules that have to be applied when specific situations are expected to take place (Wroblewski, 2019). Decision making through programmed decisions is easy since a similar situation has been handled before, and a way out is well known. In many cases, they involve matters that are of routine and straightforward ad those that are addressed in the organization as manual on rules and guidelines in case of an occurrence. Programmed decisions have positive impacts like they have positive outcomes attributed by their repetition of nature. The choices make other decisions to be made quickly since they set the bar for the formulation of new rules and procedures for others to use and use in the future.
Non programmed decisions on the other and comprise of different choices. They are ill-structured and happen at a onetime occurrence of a situation. Traditionally they can be deemed as creativity, or intuition, or impulse judgment. Non-programmed decisions are used for new or novel cases, those that do not have a guide of answers from previous scenarios (Tanuji, 2019). In this case, the managers are expected to give decisions are unique and tailored to the situation at hand. This type of choice implies that they are time-consuming since a manager has to consider all the variables at hand. The manager also has to take note of the outcome of the decision, since it is new and the consequences are not foreseen. The non-programmed decision is also likely to fail since they are on the first bases trial and error strategy. Managers can, therefore, succeed or fail in making non-programmed decisions.
