Many organizations work towards attaining global human rights by promoting peace, ensuring individual rights are safeguarded, and monitoring governmental operations to ensure human rights are protected. The UN High Commission for Human Rights is one of the globalists that promote and protect global human rights. The body has lead responsibility in the UN for the promotion and protection of human rights. The office work towards promoting global human rights by taking up peacekeeping missions in several countries; the body is in every country and region in the world with independent experts working voluntarily who examine, monitor, publicly report, and advice on human rights from a thematic or country-specific perspective. Nevertheless, in as much as these human rights globalists and other human rights activists exist. Still, there are a number of violations witnessed in the global grid. Women still face violence and discrimination; people serve untried sentences, and some governments still subject their people to suffering while terrorist groups still kill people. This shows that global human rights efforts have not bored enough fruits.
Gender equality is a fundamental human right; the ongoing Syrian war has subjected the Syrians to numerous incidents that violate their human rights. The Syrian war is an ongoing civil war that is fought between President Bashar Al-Assad and domestic and foreign allies alongside other forces and terrorist groups. The war started in 2011with major unrest in Damascus; this war is considered one of the fiercest wars of the 21st century, and it has violated the rights of many Syrians, leading to many deaths, property destruction, and suffering. Human rights violation during this war have been numerous and severe, these include sexual violence, using children as soldiers to fight in the war, a crime against the poor, torture, kidnapping and executions, shelling of civilians, attack on civilians in populated areas and attack on medical personal (Lombardo, 2015). With escalated human rights violations, more than 586 000 people have died in this war. At the same time, millions of Syrians still suffer, making this war an example of the work of human rights violations.
In 2012, my friend visited the Philippines; she planned to tour the City of Davao and Mindanao Island.
Mindanao Island is known as the home of various terrorist groups, and the Philippine government has failed to ensure security, especially for visitors and foreigners. While in her hotel room, she was abducted by local anti-government groups, which started demanding a huge ransom. While under the terrorists, she was maltreated, she was denied food, access to water, and fresh air; she was beaten, injured, and sexually assaulted. Reports reached home, and her parents with the Philippine government arranged to pay the ransom, after delivering the money as agreed, she was amputated and released. This is one case among thousands of such cases that occur in the Philippines each year. Many civilians have been kidnapped, raped, and killed in the Philippines, and the government has done so little to ensure that its people are safe. Human rights violations by terrorist groups in the Philippines, especially the Mindanao area is so rampant, and the government is doing little to rescue its people from this quagmire.
To promote the fight for global human rights, one has to be global citizenship. I have done much I can from my level to promote global citizenship. I make donations to globalists that fight for human rights. I travel sustainably and volunteer in activities that promote world peace and promote human rights. Everyone should promote global citizenship; this can be done through taking part in global politics, donating smart and getting involved in substantial world politics (Green, 2018); all will win the fight for universal human rights.
