Race the Power of An Illusion an episode I (The Difference Between Us)
The race is among the common issue widely discussed in many societies around the world. Over 100 years ago, educators and researchers used body organs such as eyes, skin color, and eye shape to classify people in different races. Although it was not discussed openly, many scientists were interested in determining whether race is directly connected to the biological issue. Therefore, episode one of “Race the Power of An Illusion” video examines the scientific aspect that challenges human belief on physical traits to categorize people into three or four fundamental groups.
The viewer follows several American African and Asian students who sequence and compare their DNA to determine everyone’s genetic material. The experiment process needed to check the homogeneity of genes among different population members. However, the experiment outcome surprised the learners because they were close to the people of other races compared to their own. Much of the program is destined to understand why humans cannot be categorized into races. The factor is lack of characteristics -not even one gene- that creates a variation among members of a particular race.
Humans are among the species that are widely studied because of their similarities. We evolved from African and left to America in the last 70,000 years. As people migrated around the world, individuals interacted and mixed their genes. Therefore, people have not separated long to evolve into isolated sub-species and races. As such, it explains why visual features vary in humans in the North of the equator. It was also learned that most traits, such as blood group, skin color, and hair texture, are stimulated by various genes and inherited simultaneously.
Some variants, such as skin in the visual characteristics’ category, appears to have evolved lately when we abandoned Africa. However, people’s traits that people seem to consider most are physical aptitude, intelligence, and musical ability, which are dominant. The scientific studies have established that 75% of all the genetic materials can be identified from a local community member. As such, racial profiling is unacceptable on the genetic level of a particular racial person.
According to the video, people have a long history of seeking a variation to discuss group results disparities. The research does not need to dwell only on blacks’ pigment but also on athletic performance. In comparing the current believe of black strength in athletics, whites believed that they were sickly and needed to die. At that period, the blacks’ mortality rate was high among the blacks and caused poor sanitation¸ poverty, and discrimination. The whites could perceive blacks to be the most deprived community in America.
Racial perception and beliefs have commonly been attached to ideas and social policy. A closer view has established that the individual genes inherently determine a person. During the experiment, the results were equal to those of other races than individuals from the same social group. However, a few genes are found in a particular population compared to others, such as people who suffer from sickle cell. Blacks are commonly accused of being largely suffering from more disease compared to whites. It should be noted that race is not biological. It is a robust social idea that shows many effects on people’s lives.
