Reaction Paper
The existence of racist covenants shows the inequality that existed towards African Americans. Even though they are no longer enforceable, removing these kinds of racist covenants helps end racial injustice towards minor communities. Rodgers Forge neighborhood became the pioneers after scrubbing off the existing racist covenants to show unity and welcome any individual regardless of race, color, or gender.
Why Would Early Residents Of Rodgers Forge Desire Restrictive Covenants (Connect With Redlining- Perception V. Reality)? What/Who Were Limited/Excluded In This Neighborhood?
Early residents of Rodgers Forge desired restrictive covenants due to racism, prejudice, and segregation towards African Americans. At this time, the Rodgers Forge neighborhood was redlined and members of the African American community were denied specific government services. However, the denial of these services towards a minority group was an infringement of human rights under the US Constitution. It is the democratic right of all Americans to receive equal services offered by the government. Restrictive covenants signed by the early residents led to the exclusion of all African Americans from owning any property or residing in Rodgers Forge.
What Is The Legacy (Long-Term Outcomes) Of Restrictive Covenants, In Rodgers Forge And Elsewhere? This Analysis Requires Critical Thinking And Support.
Restrictive covenants hinder property owners from developing prohibited parts of their lands and going contrary to this signifies a breach of contract. Minor groups especially African Americans were restricted from owning any property or living in Rodgers Forge. The long-term consequences of such restrictive covenants have been building a community where only white people live there. Therefore, instilling restrictive covenants leads to segregation and discrimination of minor communities but more importantly, promotes racial language.
Why Does This Change Matter If These Kinds Of Covenants Are No Longer Enforceable?
The existence of these kinds of covenants indicates racial injustice for African Americans and other minor communities. Not every American supports the ending of racial discrimination and having restrictive covenants can act as a platform to push for segregation for minor communities. Even though these kinds of covenants are no longer enforceable, white supremacists can use them to remind African Americans that they have never been wanted in the US and they are only useful as slaves. As such, such changes that eliminate these kinds of restrictive covenants indicate and represent the end of racial discrimination, prejudice, and segregation.
To conclude, the removal of restrictive covenants symbolizes unity and the willingness to end racial prejudice, segregation, and discrimination. Rodgers Forge pioneered in removing these racist covenants symbolizing a new era of unity for all people regardless of color, race, or gender. All in all, I recommend other states and cities across the US emulate Rodgers Forge and remove any restrictive covenants.
