There are numerous reasons why people keep journals or diary. The most common goal is to keep one’s thoughts organized. Since people tend to think and experience a lot of things daily, keeping a journal provides an excellent avenue to ensure that our experiences and thoughts are apprehensible. As life becomes more engaging, whereby people are occupied by work, school, and family life, it becomes almost impossible to get adequate time to self-reflect. Keeping a journal has been established to be one of the ways that individuals can reflect on various issues about their life and makes changes where necessary.
Journals also play a vital role in helping people improve their writing skills. From a personal level, keeping a journal has been substantial in helping me improve my writing skills since I get a chance to express myself freely without the fear of contradiction. While my writing was not perfect when I started keeping a journal, being persistent in keeping account of my thoughts and experience has helped me go the extra mile to improve my writing so that I can have a well-documented journal. Journal keeping has also been vital in helping me set and achieve my goals since every time I go through my journal, and I get the opportunity to look back at the things I have set to attain. In addition to the various reasons provided, keeping a journal also has a noteworthy impact on stress-reduction since one gets the opportunity to express their frustrations, anxieties, and pain.
