Reasons You Should Smudge Your House/Space And The Power Of Meditation.
The smudging art is an ancient spiritual ritual for purification, dissipation of negative energy, and improved mood that can be easily incorporated into your weekly routine or meditative practice. First, you start with a simple intention to concentrate on cleaning out your space and mind from the negative energies. Light the Sage or Palo Santo once you have your purpose in mind, keep it burning at an angle of 45 degrees, pointing down the flame’s tip. Place it on any heat-proof burning surface like an abalone shell, a traditional vessel that Indigenous Americans use to reflect the water element.
The stick will smoulder if left to rest and emit smoke for around 5 minutes. Walk around the room, space, object, or individual if used for smudging, fanning the smoke over its entirety, while concentrating on cleaning and clearing negative energies. After the negative energy has been smudged and replaced, you must force positive energy into space to maintain equilibrium. To do this, state your intent in your head loudly or silently.
When should you smudge?
- After a long day around people, before heading to sleep.
- You’ve had guests at your home before and after.
- When moving to the new house
- When you start a new job
- Establishing your own company
- A Meditation Session pre and post
- Pre-Meditation
- After a conflict/argument
Smudging kills airborne pathogens. There are indeed dangerous things in the air that we tend to breathe since they float around. Stuff such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi may be invisible to the naked eye, but they affect our health inevitably. Just think back to the last time you fell ill. It’s likely you were sweating because of a lot of polluted air while your house’s windows were closed. An interesting study that uses the word “medicinal smoke” found that an hour of burning sage reduced the number of bacteria in the air by 94%.
People can be allergic to several things. Still, many of the allergies we develop are the result of substances moving within the air like pollen, mould, and pollutions from exhaust fumes rich in carbon monoxide and are harmful to the health. The allergens are thought to produce positively charged ions, whereas burning sage is believed to release negative ions into the air and thus exert a neutralizing effect.
Smudging has proved to elevate the mood of the user and lower stress levels with each inhale. The findings are inconclusive, but according to one report on air ions, the same positive ions that lead to allergies can also influence the mood and stress levels.
Among other experimental studies, this study has proposed that negative ions are correlated with decreased stress, reduced anxiety, reduced depression intensity, improved sleep, and enhanced overall health.
