Recycle, reduce and reuse
Many people would throw away used items as soon as they are done with it or think they no longer need them. Such ignorance is one of many things that have cost us a lot in making the environment a better place for living. The fact is that discarding thrash is not the end of the journey but rather the beginning of the trash problem. However, there is an alternative way to turnaround and make use of them.
The ideal way of green living is recycling, reusing, and reducing thrash that would have gone to waste. In fact, the objective of environmentalists is to recycle, reduce, and reuse. You probably have heard about this mantra on a number of occasions. But what matter is what are you doing to address such matter into your collective consciousness? Well, there are key things to do to achieve the latter.
When you reduce plastics and other waste, you are diminishing the size of landfills. When you reuse things that others might dispose of unnecessarily, you minimize the amount of pollution and resource depletion involved in manufacturing. And when you recycle products, you are doing your part to help lessen the amount of factory waste and resulting atmosphere damage (including the ozone layer).
You can reduce by choosing to reuse and recycle glass containers such as jars, drink bottles, and so on. Opting to can and jar your own foods can also help to keep wasted containers to a minimum. You can also choose to buy food in bulk, repackage and freeze smaller portions for use as needed. This will reduce the amount of packaging needed.
An easy item to reuse is printer paper or any paper that has at least one blank side. Cut the pages into smaller squares and use them as scrap paper to take down phone messages, grocery lists, reminders, etc. After those scraps are used in this manner, take it a step further and recycle the now-twice-used paper.
Those who advocate the ideology of “reduce, reuse, recycle” are building a better future for the generations to come, including their potential children and grandchildren. Additionally, following the tenets that “reduce, reuse, recycle” entails, consumers are shaping a better world even for themselves. It may not seem to make a difference for as individuals, but each of us counts toward the goal of a better tomorrow.
Remember that recycling and reusing is not an excuse to live a sustainable, eco-friendly life. You can replace items around your homes with reusable, sustainable products to protect your environment.
