Hello Mariam. We have worked on the same writer and i love your work especially where you have described how Douglass learnt how to read while he was still a slave. You have shown how he used the opportunity which he got to learn how to read, that is, learning from his master’s wife and the little white boys in the neighbourhood which shows determination. You have explained very clearly how the reading knowledge that Douglass acquired contributed greatly in him escaping from slavery which I agree with.
Also, you brought to light how Bell’s parents were overprotective and strict on her. I feel like they were being too strict which made her feel like an outcast because of not having a chance to interact with the white girls around her. Therefore her parents were contributing to their daughter’s loneliness which made her think of committing suicide.

Hi Graham. Your work is awesome. I agree with you on what you have stated in your first sentence which is without knowledge, it’s impossible to be free and to be where you want in life. I like how you have gone deeper to explain how the slaves master wanted them to remain illiterate due to the fear that if they got the education they would disobey him which shows that he knew education is power. According to me, it’s due to Douglass acquaintance of knowledge that he was able to escape slavery.
Your theme on me talk pretty (never give up) is my main theme too. You have explained this theme so well. Sedaris never gave upon studying French despite his age and the mimicking he got from the other students. You have said it all, if you put your mind to something, then it would all be worth it in the end.
