Thank you for your post. In this case, it is the obligation of the parents to make a decision on the medical care to be taken which is best suitable on a child’s best interests thus weighing the benefits against the burden of care anticipated for medical treatment (Peirce & Smith, 2020). Despite the issues available in this case, for instance, financial burden, lack of understanding of the procedure, and what the infant will undergo which hinders the parent have difficulties in making a decision the appropriate decision that suits the case is necessary through the help the caregivers providing information necessary to help them out of the dilemma. Additionally, the clinical team also has the responsibility to provide knowledge on the medical condition that the infant is facing to enhance easy decision to the parent through an attempt to give prior experience with similar cases. This will make it easy for the parent to reach a consensus and support what satisfies the child’s interest which will fulfill the principle of respect to autonomy while the nurses comply with the Code of Ethics as provided (Butts &Rich, 2019). Therefore the parents should not take a chance and go for the expensive and burdensome surgery to offers the best chance for the infant to survive beyond her childhood with Down`s syndrome.
