Research Proposal for Comparing and Contrasting Languages
Understanding specific languages morphology, syntax, and semantic features, lexicons, phonetics, and phonology, among other aspects, is essential to researchers, native speakers, and other interested individuals. There have been disappointments when using foreign languages on several occasions, such as teaching among communicating other ideas. Such an instinct has led to a call for translations and learning to acquire foreign languages. Therefore, these are aspects that call for a deep understanding of foreign languages, which will call for digging deeply into their nature. Some examples of this nature are their form linguistically, morphologically, lexical, syntax among the others. My understanding of this nature is the drive beyond choosing English and Chinese languages for comparing and contrasting. The reason for the choice of these languages is that they are common, and thus their nature can easily be understood from the research perspectives.
My research paper’s focus would be to show the differences between these two languages concerning different linguistic levels. The strategy to be followed starts from a comparison of the way words form in both languages. The next are the case systems, basic word orders, how questions are formed in each language, and a look at their relative clauses. Among the necessary difference between the two languages featuring in this paper is in the morphology and syntax of the word order. English words consider form and function, while the Chinese only follow functionality. The words, strong and strengthen in English, are used in different perspectives, while in Chinese, the word strong apply to both cases, unlike in strengthen is necessary. By following this order, I believe that the paper will, in the best manner, compare and contrast my chosen languages.
