Research topic: Stono Slave Rebellion [1739]

Research topic: Stono Slave Rebellion [1739] Instructions Purpose: While information abounds in the 21st century, finding reliable resources has become exceedingly more difficult. However, never fear, an annotated bibliography is here to help! This assignment will assist you with your research for your upcoming Research Paper. Please take this assignment very seriously. At its successful completion, you should be ready to dig right in and start work on your upcoming research paper. Directions: Using the topic you have selected from one of the three provided in the Research Topic′s list in this Canvas Module, you will now choose FOUR scholarly sources on your assigned topic that you intend to use in your upcoming Research Paper. Please note if you do not select a topic from the Canvas List of Research Topics you will receive a zero for this assignment. (For more information on scholarly sources and where to find them please refer to the first few pages of this module.) For each of your FOUR sources, you will need to create a citation, which will be followed by a brief desсrіptive and evaluative paragraph- the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. Format of the Annotated Bibliography: For each of your FOUR sources you will need the following: Full Citation of the source. All citations must be written in standard MLA style. After the Work Cited entry, start a TWO paragraph annotation containing a summary and evaluation of the source. Each paragraph should be at least 5 full sentences in length. Your first paragraph should provide a brief summary of your source. Basically, you should hit the highlights and tell me what your source is about. Your second fully developed paragraph should tell me why you feel your source is scholarly. For example, is the author a professional in the field (in this case a PhD′d historian, or is your source published by a university press? *** Remember EACH source should have TWO paragraphs. At the completion of your assignment, you should, therefore, have EIGHT paragraphs total. *** Example Paper: To further assist you with this assignment please click here for an EXAMPLE of a completed Annotated Bibliography. With this in mind please be sure to fully comply with the assignment directions below. If you simply provide me with a citation and no annotations you have undermined the intentions of this assignment. Therefore, for every citation, you must include the required to annotative paragraphs. For every citation that does not include annotations, 25 points will be deducted from your grade. For instance, if you provide two citations that lack the required two paragraphs you will be deducted 50 points. If you provide four citations and no annotations you will receive a zero for the assignment. Note on Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the stealing of intellectual property and is therefore illegal. If you knowingly copy information from another person’s literary work and do not give credit you will receive a zero on the assignment in question. Note on File Type: Please submit all uploaded assignments as Microsoft Word Files (.doc or .docx) or as PDFs (.pdf.) Because I do not have a Mac I am unable to open documents in Pages (.pages) and you will receive a zero for this assignment. FINE PRINT: I will only accept and grade one submission of this assignment. If you submit more than one submission I will only grade your first submission. I do not accept late or emailed submissions of this assignment. If you plagiarize any portion of this assignment you will receive a zero. If your MLA citation is incomplete you will receive a zero for that source. [Exception: In some cases, if a source does not provide an author name, you are required to leave the author′s name out of your citation. This will be fine.] All other missing material, such as missing Journal Titles, Article Names, Etc will cause your citation to be considered incomplete. Additionally, simply provide a URL will also result in a zero. You will receive a deduction of 25 points for any citation that does not include the above mentioned required annotations. This means if you simply provide a list of citations without any additional paragraphs you will receive a zero for this assignment. Below is a list of material types you should AVOID AT ALL COSTS!: ALL Encyclopedias & Dictionaries ALL Other Short answer and Reference Books (Think World Leaders, American Biographies, Scientific Moments. When in doubt ask your Professor) Newspapers (think New York Times, CNN, World Today, etc.) Popular Magazines (think ESPN, Cosmopolitan, Sports Today, Sports Illustrated, National Geographic, etc. ) Films (think anything that is not in print… even a documentary!) Primary Sources (think anything written in the first person using ″I″) *** for more information on scholarly sources please see the following page*** Autobiographies Pamphlets Documentary Films JSTOR Daily News Articles Remember if you do not see a Work Cited or Reference Page walk away from the article! Web Resources to Avoid Google is a wonderful place full of a plethora of articles, however, determining the credibility of those articles can be tricky. A good rule of thumb is to avoid the following web pages and types of web pages: Wikipedia (This page can be edited by anyone and all information should be considered false until proven otherwise.) history.com (This page is created by television producers and not professional historians. It is not a reliable resource.) biography.com (This page is created by television producers and not professional historians. It is not a reliable source.) any URL ending in .com (While there are some good .com pages it is very difficult to determine the reliability of these types of pages and they should best be avoided) any URL ending in .org (Again while there are some good .org cites it is also very difficult to determine the reliability of these types of pages and they should be avoided at all costs.) any URL ending in .gov (While government web resources are useful they have not been peer-reviewed and are therefore not scholarly. Remember this includes anything produced by the National Park Service.) Remember if you do not see a Work Cited or Reference page walk away from the web page in question! Other Sources to Avoid Your Textbook (although accurate this source has not been peer-reviewed.) Any other Textbook
