Respected Prof. FAN Wai Yip
Greetings from India,
I, Stephen Browne am a 2nd-year undergraduate(UG) pursuing 3-year Bachelors of Science Chemistry Honours in St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, India which is ranked among the best colleges of India for pursuing undergraduate studies in Science.
I am a highly motivated individual looking for opportunities to learn more about science, specifically in Inorganic Chemistry to broaden my horizon so that I am able to equip myself with the best abilities to help in the advancement of science and our society. I got to know about the quality of research of the Chemistry Department of the National University of Singapore and while going through the website your research interest in transition metal complexes as catalysts caught my attention as I myself was studying the same topic and the recent advances in the field. I was studying the need for a sustainable resource of energy and discovered how catalysts made from transition metals can be used for water splitting and storing energy in the form of fuel which is H2 and oxidant O2. Since performing homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysis using noble metals is expensive I understand the need to study cheaper alternatives for the betterment of humanity. And therefore I am excited to gain more knowledge and work in this field. I read your work and research on proton reduction electrocatalysis and was astonished to see the results on how nickel complexes act as stable homogenous catalysts containing metal-carbon bonds. I had a few questions of my own to get more in-depth knowledge on the subject and would love to interact with you. I know the challenges faced currently in this field and need extensive research which will help in our society because of its varied applications and would like to learn from you regarding this study.
Therefore I am writing to seek an internship opportunity in a research project under you in the near future according to your availability to enhance my skill and practical knowledge while contributing to this field. I have attached my resume below.
Yours sincerely
Stephen Browne
