Respected Professor Anthony Hill
Greetings from India,
I, Stephen Browne am a 2nd-year undergraduate(UG) pursuing 3-year Bachelors of Science Chemistry Honours in St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, India which is ranked among the best colleges of India for pursuing undergraduate studies in Science.
I am a highly motivated individual looking for opportunities to learn more about Science, specifically in Inorganic Chemistry to broaden my horizon so that I can equip myself with the best abilities to help in the advancement of science and our society. I got to know about the quality of research of the Research School of Chemistry of Australian National University and while going through the website your research interest in coordination and organometallic chemistry focusing on metal-carbon multiple bonding and the interface of transition and main group Chemistry. I understand the importance of this branch of Chemistry in understanding the reactivity of systems. I myself was studying and reading on transition metal complexes as catalysts and how transition metals can be used for water splitting and storing energy in the form of fuel which is H2 and oxidant O2. I also studied synthesis, structures, and reactivity of hexanuclear metal carbonyl clusters. My study led me to read your research work on carbide-centred cluster complexes and ligand substitution. Your work on molecular carbide complexes and carbon ligands developing into μ3 ligands was groundbreaking. Carbon-complexes offer advantageous approach and I understand their applicability by overcoming steric hindrance. I was amazed to see the complexity and diversity of metallaboratrane’s cage structure and synthesis and ligand substitution. I had a few questions of my own and to get more in-depth knowledge on the subject and would love to interact with you. I know the challenges faced currently in this field and the need for extensive research which will help our society because of its varied applications and would like to learn from you regarding this study.
My interest in Chemistry started from an early age seeing the applicability of chemical sciences around me which inspired me to pursue Chemistry. I believe learning from you about this field will help me gain practical and theoretical knowledge about the subject and allow me to generate new innovations in this field and strive forward in Chemical Sciences.
Therefore I am writing to seek an internship opportunity in a research project under you in the near future according to your availability to learn from you and as this is my research interest and am ready to work hard. I have attached my CV below. Kindly consider my application. I will be highly obliged.
Yours sincerely
Stephen Browne
