Revision

Q 1

I agree with Murray that revision of work done by a professional writer is fun. Revision involves reding and re-reading your work as many times as possible with the intent to make changes to ensure it offers the audience clarity intended while still maintaining its meaning. The fun part of revision comes when the writer involves different procedures to outline changes in their work, mainly when one chose to read through their work as the audience it was intended for, (Murray, 2014). The writer gets to role play and enjoys getting information bit by bit, enjoying the various styles employed on the writing. This process ensures that the writer gets more exciting words and structure to input in their work to make it more attractive to the reader.

Engaging the mind in revising your work as a writer excites the brain and keeps it awake. It gets to the point where the writer now focuses on shifting their eyes form back and forth from page to page (Murray, 2014). It ensures every little fine detail is taken care of and altered in a pleasing manner. Through this process, revision of work becomes a culture that the writer enjoys as their mind is engaged, and the end product of the revision gives the writer happiness that they have done and produced the right document.

Revision of a writer’s work gives the writer a feeling of satisfaction; re-reading your writing enables one to appreciate their writing abilities. It is only after you read your piece as an audience that you can appreciate your writing ability. As you go through your work, the feeling of satisfaction gives one joy to the extent that some readers want to keep reading their work and make any corrections and clarifications, they feel it will make it look for better. For this reason, writers feel like there is never adequate time for making revisions to their work (Murray, 2014). Every time they go through it, they find something new that would make it eye-catching.

Q 2

Higher-order concerns refer to your paper’s most significant parts in writing; they include areas covering the thesis, purpose, and audience intended to address, development, and organization of the article. On the other hand, lower-order concerns deal with the less primary aspect of the paper, which includes the grammar and sentence structure, which are essential for the paper to communicate. Higher-order concerns are more significant in paper revision in comparison to the lower order concerns as they carry the whole objective of the article written (Lab, 2020). The thesis statement gives the audience the central idea of what the written piece is about. Having a specific audience and purpose for the paper is vital to avoid miscommunications and organization. The development of the paper keeps the target audience the desire to read more. The lower-order concerns are meant to support the high order concerns as they are subject to changes depending on the higher-order concerns.

To achieve a proper revision, I will start with the higher-order concerns of my paper. I will check whether my thesis statement communicates the central idea of what I intend to write about (Lab, 2020). I can achieve this by asking a friend to read through the first paragraph of my work and tell me what they think the paper is about to ensure it tallies my goal. I will then read through to identify if my chosen audience is clear, and if my paper’s purpose has been achieved as intended. Furthermore, I will check on the article’s organization to ensure it makes logical sense by checking for the flow of paragraph to paragraph and narrow down to every specific sentence. For the development, I will correct any areas that need clarification and include examples where necessary.

I will then proceed to the lower order concerns, to begin with, I will identify grammar and spelling mistakes that frequently occur to correct them. I will then continue to read the paper aloud and listen keenly to make changes in sentences that do not feel right. Finally, I will cross check for all punctuation marks I used to ensure they are in the right place.

Q 3

The most significant challenge I encountered in completing this research paper was having to read through all the research materials provided to complete it. I had to gather all the resources first read through and make short notes to guide me through the process. The aspect that is still challenging for me is adapting to read through long written articles to obtain information. The research also required me to go through the APA 7th edition formatting style, including citations for my paper, which was challenging to follow through. I must admit the research has positively affected me. I have acquired the desire and zeal to be a better writer by knowing the essence of my work’s revision.

I now have the strategies to achieve better-revised work, which begins from focusing on the higher-order concerns followed by lower-order concerns (Murray, 2014). I can now differentiate the higher-order concerns and the lower order concerns of my paper to appeal. My perception towards revision has changed, and I now find it fascinating to go through my work to make the best copy I can ever produce, which gives one a sense of satisfaction. Through this research, I am proud that I have been able to complete my paper with a thorough analysis following through the guidelines I have picked up from the research documents. I have read and re-read the article to ensure I get satisfaction for the work I present for analysis.
