role that statistics play in human life
There is a significant role that statistics play in human life. The numbers impact our lives, either consciously or unconsciously. The unfortunate thing in the current generation and era is that our lives have been overwhelmed by information and data. A feature that has seen decision making becomes a difficulty, especially in the overloaded systems around us. Some of the benefits that statistics come along with are assisting people process and understanding the world around and more so if everything is applied as it should be. Sound and concrete decision making relies on complete data that is employed to form comprehensive information. The reason behind all the challenges is that data contains a substantial amount of power and authority in arguments. The challenge creeps in when there are numbers that are cooked to cover up a funny story. But, by the virtue that there is the existence of the number, we become less suspicious if the numbers are actual. Some of the prevailing questions are;
- Could the statistics be deceptive?
- What if people are aiming at manipulating the target group to believing some of the things that they should not consciously be believing?
- And finally, what are the milestones to have the data adjusted and the statistical outcomes?
Margin errors are calculated to help the stakeholders understand the level of tolerance they should have regarding the presented data. Margin data goes low when the sample group increases. 95 level of confidence also gives allowance to the data presented to have an error of 5%
Conclusion
There are many vulnerabilities on the statistical data, and there are chances to have the data used against the target groups. It is also dangerous in its capacity to underline every other argument with a given authority. If a point comes up that there will be a clear understanding and the number exhibited, then it becomes comfortable to conclude it is correct. There and then, it relies on the audience and their reaction. There are wrong decisions from false information, and they have great implications on the statistics. Data can also offer insight; they bring about better decisions and create avenues to coming up with predictions. This was bringing the people involved in seeking the measures they need to take. Through the idea of filling all the loopholes on where the deceptive data comes from, we get to a position where there are reductions in the chances of being trapped. With the ideal employment of data as well as the tracked statistics in a responsible and comprehensive ethical manner, the involved people actively contribute to a more informed setting and that sounds like an incredible mission for the imminent.
Reasoning
I base my reasoning from a very familiar story the old Reebok campaign. “It is a shoe that works the calves and the hamstring to 11% harder and tone the butts to 28% more than other sneakers…. Just by walking”. This advert will obviously entice and impress the target group. But were those the actual benefits, the old Reebok sneakers were comfortable and just like any other sneakers walking only could not instill such benefits without working out. The statistics on the truth behind the advertisement was questionable because there was no proven statistics and even if there was a collection of individuals who were supportive of the advert, they could not represent the entire population as well as the people who were consumers of the product. This is a typical way where use of language is used to obtain the needed statistics and that is bias. Again, some sources of false precision emanated from neglecting the sample size.
