Health and Safety Strategies of Coca Cola in Covid-19 Times

Coca-Cola Company has remained innovative over the years by producing brands that meet its customers’ needs. Coca-Cola employs market differentiation strategies to ensure its consumers ‘needs are met, which is achieved by offering products with varying tastes and preferences. Coca-Cola has become one of the most valuable brands, which has globally diversified its operations. The company covers well over huge merchandise of consumable products, including water, coffee, and juices. Coca-Cola emerges to be a health-conscious company by shifting its focus in the provision of carbonated drinks and juices that are free of calories, therefore satisfying customers’ needs for healthy living. The diet coke and zero Coke are consumable products that Coke targets with customers whose requirements are low-calorie foods. Coke is aware of the market dynamics that involve changing customer behaviors. The company analyzes the current situation and produces products that meet future market demands and preferences.

At the Coca-Cola Company, the safety of employees and the community is the driving force behind success. According to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2015, there is an emphasis on the necessity to provide employees with training, instructions, and the knowledge required to ensure their health and safety (Reese, 2018). Equipping employees with health and safety information and training minimizes their chances of occupational injuries (Reese, 2018). It provides employees with the skills and knowledge necessary for competency in the safety and health aspects that are supposedly their duties. It also promotes positive health and safety culture. At Coca-Cola, Safety, and Health training covers:

While it is the primary duty of employers to ensure that risk and safety policies are adequately managed in the work institution, the law equally demands that employees participate in controlling risks and dangers (Reese, 2018). Given that Coke is a Food and Beverage company, numerous chemical products are used; every individual must understand that negligence is dangerous to peoples’ health. Thus, the employees are expected to follow the workplace’s health and safety policies and adhere to safety, and health skills learned in training offered by the company. Employee training on safety and health strategies remained equipment and tools that offer solutions for health and safety issues.

Importance of Health and Safety Training

Training on safety and health is beneficial to individual employees; it is also critical to the Coca-Cola Company. First, it reduces risks to employees, minimize accidents and lowers cases of employee absence or turnovers. Again, with reduced legal claims against the company, the organization’s reputation is espoused with regards. Lastly, Coke’s employee training allows for less expense on accident or legal cases, which consequently improves company revenues (Reese, 2018).

Company’s Culture

At the Coca-Cola Company, it is of the tradition for employees to understand that the organization’s priorities regarding health and safety policies for workers. It is a routine that the company’s priority for employees’ health and safety is utmost. Thus, to ensure that the culture is preserved, every new employee must undergo health and safety training during their first two weeks at the company. Therefore, employees would be expected to take a self-time test after completing their training.  It would be anticipated that all employees explore safety and health information under the company portal to stay informed in a nutshell.

Evaluation

The measurement of learning through outcome assessment is essential because it provides useful feedback to both management and employees about the extent to which employees understand workplace safety and health, meeting training objectives as per Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2015 (Reese, 2018). The company has reinforced hygiene guidelines that ensure their employees are trained on observing exposure limitations stipulated in safety and health policies. It implements isolation protocols inscribed on local health official guidelines. It ensures its workers adhere to sanitization conventions, which are fundamental and universal, and observe quarantines if an employee is isolated to have been infected.

During this pandemic of Covid-19, Coke has managed to implement routine split shifts that enhance reduced contacts, a strategy for exposure to its employees. Moreover, the provision of alcohol wipes and hand sanitizers has been reprimanded obligation of the company that will allow for safety and health is guaranteed for its employees.   Installing temperature screening has also become a strategy that Coke utilizes to ensure offices and manufacturing facilities remain safe from Covid-19 infection of workers. The company has strategically set up health-monitoring mechanisms, especially in areas where the pandemic has mostly affected. James Quincey, Chairman, and CEO reiterated that the measures were meant to protect employees and the public whose safety and health condition is also at stake if the company experiences an outbreak amongst workers.
