The school day should be extended by two hours so that students can get help with their homework. Extension of the school day hours provides students with more time for learning. Learners can be in group work to discuss areas of their weaknesses and study further into areas that they did not understand well during class hours. Besides, it provides teachers with more one-on-one time with each student in their classroom. One on one engagement allows the teacher to know the specific weakness of their learner that need to be personally addressed. Troublesome areas of each student may have educational plans implemented to correct them with lengthening the school time with two hours.
Lengthening school time provides additional learning time for other subjects. When a school has a fixed budget and limited resources for its programs, the creative subjects tend to be given a priority. These include mathematics and science subjects. Other subjects such as music, art and physical education are not given ample and enough time to be handled. This makes them be tested in an unstandardized way. By having longer school hours, it will make it possible to add these subjects to the local curriculums so that the students can benefit from a well-rounded education system.
Moreover, when school hours are strengthened, it will give students time to finish their learning activities. A school bell may ring for home when the students are in their last hour writing a story or doing persuasive writing. This will force them to leave for home and come the following day. This might make them forget what they were going to write, therefore making them score bad marks, especially if it were a test. If a school wants a better report and a better life for its students, I suggest that the school should have extended hours.
