Sunshine state fiction
In early May 2050, the world was unseasonably hot, and beyond the thin silver lining remained the iron dark, ominous clouds of the island that gathered every morning on the horizon. The threatening clouds were depicted as an omen and a sign of climatic tribulations to come. Although some people did not buy the idea of the myth, the superstitions sometimes came to pass. Besides, the texts crack open the ominous clouds and the subsequent coming of a storm. The aim of the fiction here is to make the reader feel ahead of schedule as the driving rain came to their face, and the sun very hot through the greenhouse air (Gerard, 2017). The story sets on a future science fiction about climate change and how it is going to determine our next one way or another defiantly. Also, there are genre distinctions between the stories as always contested. For instance, the account may be soft or hard in its approach to realism and physics can get bucketed into subgenres, like space opera and punk movements like in the case of the sunshine state. In the past years, there has been a development that gave room for the contribution of climatic fiction, such as the sunshine state, that predicts an upside-down world as a result of climate change.
Figure 1: The Sunshine State
Further, in the sunshine state, an unnamed protagonist goes through a metamorphosis of massive proportions that comes about with the gradual change in the climate. A road trip takes the protagonist to the darkest areas of the world space, and there psyche and body undergo startling transformations that are caused by their exposure to different climatic conditions. Besides the body transformations that the is attributed to the climatic conditions, the protagonists also experience heart experiences that include eating disorders of which they struggle to keep up with. In this regard, the fiction penetration and profound experiences of an inverse world are a depiction of the coming world’s years as the environmental conditions change. Besides, the sunshine state invokes place and time paradigms that include environmental objects such as vegetation and water bodies with alligators that undergo tremendous transformations. In a fiction narrative, the author of the story, Gerald, strikes a balance between the actual distance and the glimpse of emotions that are depicted to be the driving force of the Earth in the future. Therefore, the fiction is embedded in a particular social science that presumes that climatic change will lead to the transformation of the whole universe, including the physical objects, as people will transform into superhumans with unique features.
The Broken Erath Trilogy
The Broken Earth trilogy presumes a massive still continent named stillness with no activities which predict the future Earth that will be wrecked by seasonal disasters brought about by the change in the environment brought about by climate change. The trilogy includes three seasons that are bad storms comprising apocalyptic events that last for generations and reshapes the world with all of its inhabitants. For those who manage to survive, go into the ‘comms,’ which are protected human communities that are only but awaiting destruction, of which the people may crawl out and rebuild new civilization free of industrial activities that would bring climatic disruption like seen before in the previous event. Besides, there are remnants of advancement in the civilization that persist through the destruction, and that includes the Obelisks, which are giant floating crystals (Iles, 2019). The seasons in the fiction establish a world beyond the norms as it opens with a woman, Essen, who comes home to find her husband murdered by unknown assailants. She vanishes with her children only to find herself in the Fulcrum, a new world that is prone to vicious climatic events that see the death of many of the people called the orogen.
Among the survivors of humanity in the broken Earth are the orogenes, who are individuals who draw incredible magical power from reservoirs of the Earth. However, while these people serve a useful purpose for society, their training and treatment is not pleasant. For instance, they are taken from their homes as children and brought to up to the Fulcrum, which is an order that trains them under the close supervision of another order of people called the Guardians (Iles, 2019). In this case, when the season of destruction arrive, they are singled out for death. This fiction is an illustration of the future happenings on Earth as a result of the changes in the environmental conditions as propagated by the present generation. Besides, the story sets on a fantasy world of destruction blending together the fantasies and science fiction in the future Earth where there will be building up a magical system based around the forces of geology. The name orogen that represents the future people originates from the word orogeny, which is the process of mountain-building. For instance, once the orogen completes their training, they draw their power from the Earth’s crust and are sent to where they will be useful. This analogy describes how the Earth is given life and presumed to be robust to the extent of either destroying or building nature and human beings in particular.
