From an employee’s point of view, the seniority clause is positive as it serves to recognize the skills and knowledge that the employee has gained and the benefits the organization is getting. The clause enables the employee to receive higher compensation, which is due to them. It is similar to the promotions that people are given the courtesy of their time spent in the organization. It would be most favorable, especially if I am working in a mass-production industry or seasonal employment. It enables the employee to secure their job security and so improve their earnings over time. This way, the employee is motivated to continue working since they know that despite new employees in the labor market, their position is secured from such threats. It also protects the employee from discrimination by the employer and ensures equality in the promotion.

From a manager’s point of view, the seniority clause is detrimental because it is a basis of discrimination, not a principle for proper management. It denies the company an opportunity to employ people who may have higher expertise than those in the organization. The clause also protects employees, some of whom may be performing poorly in the organization. The compensation increase may not be due, as compared to the job worth. Some of the employees are hard to reach or hard to learn, and therefore, no matter the amount of time working in the organization, very little may change in terms of their skills and knowledge. Thus, the cause gives extra expenses to the organization and makes the company condone some of the employees. There may be other new employees whose performance is very high and such would deserve increased compensation.
