Self-efficacy
In the narrative, the conflict that emerges between the son and is lesbian parents seems to be a grievous one primarily because it encompasses a question of the moral view and the disconnection between the religious views. The mothers claim that the members the local Fundamentalist Church belong to the “hate community” According to me, the reason why the parents argue that the members belong to the category of the hate community is that their views conflict with those of the church (Bitter, 2014, p.321). The church condemns lesbianism and is against every justification of lesbians. Ideally, lesbians are considered as an outcast and an abomination to in the society. Their character is questionable! From a Christian perspective, Lesbianism is not acceptable and completely immoral to engage in such as acts of impunity! Given that the Church is entirely against members in the lesbian community, they outs and disassociate themselves with any action relating to the lesbian members. The lesbian parents are afraid that their son will be influenced by the teachings and moral views of the Christian community and they, therefore, do everything to prevent their child from being associated with them (Bitter, 2014 p.321). As a matter of fact, they perceive the idea that by letting their child attend the church will eventually lead their son astray and in the end betray and deny them. The son thinks that his parents raised him well since they taught him the right morals. However, his view is on the verge of being altered especially when the son interacts with the Christian community. According to Syed & Azmitia (2008) Understanding, the question on moral identity is heavily influenced by the background with which a child is exposed to during the child’s lifetime.
Group C
Self-efficacy is the ability to succeed in specific situations or achieve success when accomplishing any task (Maddux, 2013). Ideally, self-efficacy plays a significant role in how one approaches goals, duties and challenges. In this narrative, the first born daughter is a victim of low esteem and lack of self-efficacy. According to her, she thinks that she is overburdened with household tasks as well as other roles of taking care of her siblings. According to her, her parents do not love her much as they overburden her with errands and she sees it as a form of punishment. Ideally, this makes her feel sad about herself. Consequently, she chooses to focus on her parent’s shortcomings and encumbrances (Bitter, 2014). More to that, she sees herself as weak especially now that she has not confronted her parents and complained to them of how she perceives things. By visiting the therapist, she seeks solace, refuge as well as answers to questions about her upbringing. Though the therapist asks her witty questions which blow her up, she is left hopeless and clueless of what to do next. It is advisable that therapists and counselors should not only focus at spotting out the problems and weakness of the victims but also focus on their strength and encourage them on how to go about the problems they might be facing. In other words, they should be solution oriented!
