Following a deep reflection on the past modules, I realize that several concepts are integral in the development of my leadership goals. I understand that the technical skills that assisted me in securing my current job do not guarantee me a chance in the next job I aspire to join. Therefore, I see the need to uptake emotional intelligence in my leadership roles. By analyzing the effects of the various components of emotional intelligence, I observe that self-awareness will enhance my ability in not only recognizing my strengths and weaknesses but also in identifying my emotions and their associated effects.

Within my leadership position, I can confirm that my department continues to record declined success, which largely results in stress and reduced motivation. However, following the past lectures, it is clear that to bring out the best of my team, I have to possess self-awareness, which will help me bring out the best of me. Further, I understand that the best way of probing my self-awareness levels is through engaging in a 360- degree feedback, which will allow me to assess my performance and relate it with the opinion of the CEO and my peers.

Applying the Self-management concept will effectively accord me the ability to manage my emotions during the stressful ordeals as well as provide positive solutions towards the challenges. Self-management may involve, posing, or breathing to enhance a relaxed and composed position. Despite learning how to manage my emotions, I feel that social awareness will also go a long way in helping me recognize other people’s emotions. Therefore, through empathy, I will effectively collaborate with others within my organization.

Further, I am the kind of person who avoids confronting situations within my organization. Through the past lectures, I learned that leaders who fail to address conflicts lead to loss of time and resources through unproductive conflict resolution methods. Therefore, I will effectively apply relationship management, which will enhance my ability to influence and resolve conflicts.

I am also embarking on reading about communication in leadership due to the resentment and poor relationship within my department. I attribute my poor communication skills to reduced success. Therefore, keeping in mind the importance of communication in leadership, I will embark on reading about ways of fixing my poor communication skills in my organization.
